The Nissan Z is the latest sports car from Nissan to carry the “Z” name, and it promises to pay homage to cars of the past while competing with sports cars of the present. With its blend of style and performance, how much does a Nissan Z cost? This answer will depend on the model you choose, and the good news is that for a base trim Nissan Z, it might be less than you expect.

The base model is known as the Nissan Z Sport, but just because it’s the lowest-trim Z doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. According to Nissan, Nissan Z models are equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. This is true for the Sport and upgraded trim levels.

A major selling point for the Nissan Z is that it is available as a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission is bound to appeal to drivers who enjoy the added control that comes with a stick shift, and it can make navigating the Nissan Z even more of an experience.

For those who prefer an automatic, though, Nissan has driving modes to optimize the car’s performance based on your drive. Nissan states that the automatic Nissan Z features Standard Mode and Sport Mode. The Standard Mode is meant for daily commutes and gives the sports car a more comfortable ride, and the Sport Mode gives the Z features like quicker shifts and even enhanced sounds from the engine for more performance driving.

If this sounds appealing, Nissan lists the starting MSRP for the Nissan Z Sport at $39,990 for both the manual and automatic options. Coming in at just under $40,000, this is a reasonable cost for a capable sports car like this.

What is the MSRP of the top-trim Nissan Z?

For fans of the Nissan Z who want something even more special, Nissan is offering a top-level trim known as the Nissan Z Proto Spec. This is a limited launch edition of the Z, and Nissan is only releasing 240 models in the United States. It features the same 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic options and 400-horsepower V6, but it stands out with its striking style.

The Nissan Z Proto Spec comes standard with an electric yellow paint scheme, and this theme is carried on in the interior, which features yellow stitching and trim. It also has leather seats with suede inserts for comfort while driving. Lastly, its 19-inch forged alloy wheels come with a bronze finish to complete the exclusive style of the Nissan Z Proto Spec.

Because this is a special-edition Nissan Z, it comes at a higher price than the Sport trim. The Nissan Z Proto Spec has an MSRP of $52,990.

Add-ons for the Nissan Z

Of course, Nissan also offers an assortment of accessories and add-ons so buyers can customize the sports car to fit their style.

To highlight the track-ready performance of the Nissan Z, buyers can add dual racing stripes to their cars. This addition adds an extra $595 to the price of the Nissan Z.

For keyless entry, a buyer can pay $450 to add a virtual key to the Nissan Z. With this, a driver can use their smartphone or even Apple Watch to unlock their car.

For added protection to the vehicle’s paint, buyers can opt-in for a clear hood protector. This feature costs $170 and is installed at the dealer. It is a clear protector, so it does not distract from the look of the Nissan Z.

A buyer can genuinely make the Nissan Z look like they want, and these are just a few of the add-ons that Nissan offers.
