The 2023 Subaru Solterra compact SUV is the Japanese automaker’s first all-electric production vehicle. Subaru and Toyota partnered to develop the platform, which is also used on the Toyota bZ4X. The Solterra’s battery should recharge fully in nine hours using a Level 2 charging station. But it can recharge to 80% in 56 minutes using a 100-kW DC fast charger. C/D points out that the Solterra doesn’t charge as quickly or have as much driving range as competitors.
Like Subaru’s other crossover SUVs, the Solterra comes standard with all-wheel drive and can handle light off-roading. It has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, traction control, hill ascent, and descent assist. In addition, it provides four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-Mode. The last is useful for slippery or uneven surfaces because it regulates the power separately for each wheel.

In addition to the standard features available on the Premium, the Limited adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, navigation, a Harman Kardon audio system, a 360-degree camera system, fog lights, and a digital key. It also has a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, synthetic leather-trimmed upholstery, a power liftgate, 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a roof spoiler with aerodynamic fins.
