The 2023 Subaru Solterra compact SUV is the Japanese automaker’s first all-electric production vehicle. Subaru and Toyota partnered to develop the platform, which is also used on the Toyota bZ4X. However, the Solterra stands out for its enhanced off-roading capabilities. This new EV comes in three trim levels, but how much does a fully loaded 2023 Subaru Solterra cost? We take a look.

Overview of the 2023 Subaru Solterra

The 2023 Subaru Solterra has two 80-kW electric motors producing 215 hp and 249 lb-ft of torque. Its battery pack’s gross capacity is 72.8 kWh, and its estimated range is 222 to 228 miles, Car and Driver reports. The Solterra’s battery should recharge fully in nine hours using a Level 2 charging station. But it can recharge to 80% in 56 minutes using a 100-kW DC fast charger. C/D points out that the Solterra doesn’t charge as quickly or have as much driving range as competitors.

Like Subaru’s other crossover SUVs, the Solterra comes standard with all-wheel drive and can handle light off-roading. It has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, traction control, hill ascent, and descent assist. In addition, it provides four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-Mode. The last is useful for slippery or uneven surfaces because it regulates the power separately for each wheel.

As for the interior, the 2023 Solterra has an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, five USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, and automatic climate control.

Standard advanced safety features include automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2023 Subaru Solterra comes in three trim levels: Premium, Limited, and Touring. The confusingly named base-model Premium starts at $44,995, which U.S. News says is higher than its competitors. The Limited starts at $48,495, and the Touring starts at $51,995.

In addition to the standard features available on the Premium, the Limited adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, navigation, a Harman Kardon audio system, a 360-degree camera system, fog lights, and a digital key. It also has a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, synthetic leather-trimmed upholstery, a power liftgate, 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a roof spoiler with aerodynamic fins.

The range-topping Solterra Touring trim adds to that lengthy list a panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade, ventilated front seats, illuminated interior trim, and a digital rearview mirror with a rear-vision camera display.

No optional features or packages are available for the 2023 Solterra, but buyers can add numerous accessories. The 29 extras include a cargo organizer, cargo tray, all-weather floor liners, body side molding, an accessory activity mount, and a pet ramp.

In addition, expect to pay a destination and delivery fee of $1,225.

With all 29 accessories and the fee included, a fully loaded 2023 Subaru Solterra costs $56,808.

The mid-range Subaru Solterra Limited looks like the best buy. For an extra $3,500, the Touring doesn’t add many features. However, the panoramic glass roof might make the price of the Touring worth it to some buyers.

Others will likely be happy with the tech and interior upgrades on the Limited. The Limited is also $3,500 more than the base model, but it includes numerous features, from a larger touchscreen and a heated steering wheel to larger wheels. Car and Driver recommends the Limited, while U.S. News picks the Premium.
