How Much Is a Fully-Loaded 2023 Toyota Prius Prime?
A replacement for one of the original plug-in hybrids is finally here. The 2023 Toyota Prius Prime has debuted wearing the sleekest ball gown in the segment. Not an inch of the car went touched during the complete redesign, now boasting more standard features than ever before. While the base model Prime is a likable automotive specimen, what do you get in the fully-loaded model?
What trim levels does the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime offer?
The Prime’s three trim levels—SE, XSE, and XSE Premium—mirror the offerings in the hybrid Prius. Base models are stocked to the gills with innovative features. For instance, climate control with pollen filtration, a low-speed driving assistant, and six—count ‘em, six—USB-C charging ports. Of course, the all-new Prime features an all-new drivetrain with 99 horsepower more than the predecessor.
Base Primes have a starting MSRP of $32,350, and have 44 miles of all-electric range. For $35,600, the mid-range XSE offers more interior features, but less range, dropping to 39 miles. Fuel efficiency takes a hit, too. The Prime XSE can achieve a combined 48 mpg, whereas the base SE can hit 52 mpg.
The top-of-the-line 2023 Toyota Prius Prime XSE Limited
Beginning at $39,170—$5,000 more than the hybrid Prius—the Prime also suffers from a slightly reduced range. It has the same 39-mile all-electric capability as the XSE. While only the XSE Limited offers an optional 185-watt solar roof, Toyota doesn’t say it increases fuel economy. Regardless, there are plenty of perks above the base and mid-range Prime.
The Prime XSE Limited has the XSE’s 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen but gains an elegant, fixed glass roof, providing the allure of even more interior space. A power liftback hatch is also a big improvement over the lower trim levels, as is the two-setting driver’s seat memory function. Moreover, the XSE Limited has heated and ventilated front seats, which aren’t even optional extras on the others.
Is the most expensive Prime any safer?
All 2023 Toyota Prius Prime trim levels have Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 as standard. The system includes traditional functions like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, lane-keep assist, and road sign recognition. Yet, TSS now has one safety-minded system and one convenience-minded system that will help operate the acceleration, braking, and steering in certain low-speed conditions. The fully-loaded Prime doesn’t come with any additional standard safety features, but the XSE Premium has access to a few options.
For an extra $200, Toyota will throw in a digital rearview mirror. There are more, but there is expected limited availability given their presence in press releases and not on the official options list. Toyota says a panoramic view monitor is also available that grants drivers a 360-degree overhead view in low-speed drive and reverse gears. The Advanced Park function is capable of parallel parking and backing up into a perpendicular space using a multitude of cameras and sensors.
How much is a fully-loaded 2023 Toyota Prius Prime?
Accessories aside, when spec-ing the Prime XSE Limited to the max of the single Advanced Technology Package with options, the total comes to $41,900. That includes the $1,095 destination fee. Compared to the 2022 Prius Prime, it’s roughly $5,000 more.
In the plug-in segment, the all-new Prime sits on the higher-priced end of the spectrum. In fact, it’s nearly as much as Toyota’s RAV4 Prime. Nevertheless, given how much engineering and will to be taken seriously that Toyota put into the new Prime, $40,000 seems like a steal.
