The XC60 is among several luxury crossovers Volvo produces. One of the significant additions for the 2023 model year is the Recharge plug-in hybrid version. It offers multiple trim levels and customization options. But with more upgrades comes a heftier price tag. So, how much is a fully loaded 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge, and is it worth the spend? 

The 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge is an attractive addition to the lineup

The 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge offers four trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate, and the top-tier Polestar Engineered. 

The Core offers plenty, even as the base model. Like all XC60 Recharge trims, it has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine/electric motor setup harnessing 455 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque. This Volvo SUV gets 63 MPGe combined and can run in electric-only mode for an impressive 36 miles. The latter allows the 2023 XC60 Recharge to qualify for the maximum federal EV tax credit and additional incentives in certain states. 

Standard advanced safety features like forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and oncoming lane mitigation helped the XC60 earn a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Other benefits include 38 inches of rear legroom and up to 63.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. The Core starts at $58,495. 

Volvo prices the next trim level, the Plus, at $62,745. It includes all of the Core’s features plus a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist, a steering function that helps keep the SUV in its lane and a safe driving distance from cars in front of it. 

For $68,245, the Ultimate adds a Harman Kardon premium sound system, front seat ventilation, and a head-up display. But despite its name, this trim level isn’t the final one.

How much does a fully loaded 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge cost?

Starting at $75,445, the Polestar Engineered is the most expensive XC60 Recharge trim. It boasts an upscale design, with a custom chassis, front grille, and 21-inch alloy wheels giving the driver more comfort and control behind the wheel. 

This trim’s sticker price is already substantially higher than the Core’s. But the Polestar Engineered also offers options and packages to upgrade the Recharge further.

If the standard Black Stone exterior color doesn’t suit your style, you have four others to choose from — Onyx Black, Thunder Grey, Silver Dawn, and Crystal White — for $695. You can also upgrade to 22-inch wheels with Summer tires for $800. And the Protection Package Premier provides extra interior and exterior security for $750.

Finally, you can add various accessories. The most expensive are a foldable trailer hitch ($1,655), integrated running boards ($1,580), and second-row booster cushions ($500).

With all those upgrades, a fully loaded 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge costs $82,160. That’s nearly $25,000 over the base model. 

Which trim represents the best value for the money?

Every 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge trim is an excellent SUV that will satisfy most drivers. But in terms of the best value, one model stands above the rest. 

Reviewers at MotorTrend and Car and Driver agree on the mid-level Plus. This trim provides the best balance of performance and efficiency without pushing the price too high. 

The Ultimate and Polestar Engineered still have their merits and are worth the price if you want specific features. But if you’re looking for a luxury PHEV that won’t break the bank, the Plus is the way to go.
