Future Lexus SUV Lineup Includes TX and RZ, Along With Next-Gen GX and LX
Lexus is going to launch brand new SUV models into its lineup as well as next-generation versions of its GX and LX models. This information was presented by a Reddit user in a detailed post. A questionable source, but the user is part of Lexus enthusiast forums and is known for being an industry expert. If that still doesn’t sound right, CarAndDriver confirmed the new models have trademarks filed for them by Lexus in the US. Here’s what the future Lexus SUV lineup will look like.
RZ450e – Yes, the “e” means electric
Not much information is available for the upcoming electric SUV from Lexus, called the RZ450e. Lexus has already shown the concept for its first electric vehicle, the LF-Z electrified EV crossover. We likely can expect the RZ450e to take on a similar look to the LF-Z electrified concept car. The concept LF-Z electrified has a sleek and futuristic look, with electrified written on the rear in LED lettering. A sharp look, we expect the RZ450e to be a bit bigger, with a similar body style.
TX – Three row SUV
The current RX L model is going to be replaced by the TX350 and TX500h, both of which have been filed for trademark by Lexus. Like with other Lexus models, the “h” likely suggests there will be a hybrid version. The V6 three-row SUV will likely be longer than the RX L. The RX-L is just the RX with a third row thrown in the back, so bigger is better. This will give drivers significantly more room for cargo and passengers. It might also bring the TX Lexus models immediately into contention for best hybrid three-row SUV. CarAndDriver suggests this one may take on the look of the LF-1 Limitless concept from a few years ago. Adding another three row SUV to the future Lexus SUV lineup helps bolster the selection of spacious family SUVs from Lexus.
LX600 – Land Cruiser who?
The current offering, the LX570 is going up by 30. The LX600 name has also been trademarked by Lexus, confirming its existence in the near future. This full-size SUV will likely use the same twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine as the Land Cruiser. The Toyota Land Cruiser is no longer being sold in the US starting in 2022, so is the LX600 the replacement for it? According to the Reddit user who shared the information, it will also offer a hybrid version as well as a more luxurious trim which is expected. Could this be the fancier Land Cruiser-LX570 combination consumers have been looking for? A full-size SUV with offroading capability as well as immense luxuriousness, perhaps?
GX550 – Going off road
The next generation of GX SUVs from Lexus are gaining some new features specifically for offroad driving. The Lexus GX550 is likely to still use the same body-on-frame platform, and the same 3.4-liter V6 as the LX600. The focus on offroading comes from competing with new luxury SUVs in its class that are now capable of leaving the roads. The Land Rover Defender most notably, but others like the Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes G-Class, Toyota 4Runner, and of course the new Ford Bronco. Once again, CarAndDriver suggests a previously revealed concept may match the look of this model. The GXOR from 2019 shows a similarly-sized SUV with greater ground clearance than most Lexus SUVs, with a focus on offroading.
Lexus is launching itself into the electric vehicle market along with revamping some of its outdated models. The Lexus SUV lineup will quickly climb its way back to the top with changes like these. Every automaker is now revealing the latest electric vehicles to join their respective lineups, but Lexus is simultaneously releasing next-generation versions of the already existing Lexus SUVs.
