General Motors coughs up $35 million for defective Duramax claims
It’s an expensive day for General Motors trucks. The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have both been facing claims over defective Duramax diesel engines. To settle the class-action lawsuit, General Motors paid $35 million.
General Motors pays $35 million to settle defective Duramax case
General Motors is bailing out of the fight with a $35 million payout to settle a class-action lawsuit. As a result, owners with a 2011-2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra truck equipped with the Duramax diesel engine could be entitled to cash.
The defective Duramax engine lawsuit alleges that the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 engines were equipped with a faulty high-pressure fuel injector pump. Plaintiffs claim that the CP4 is too weak, making it susceptible to catastrophic failure.
While General Motors maintains that it didn’t do anything wrong, it’s putting up the cash. Doing so could prevent a larger payout while avoiding possible risks and delays involved with extended legal proceedings.
But there’s a bit of red tape. Only those who purchased the trucks from an authorized dealership in California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas qualify for settlements.
According to JND Legal Administration, settlement pay will range between $6,356 to $12,712 for drivers who still own their trucks and paid out of pocket for CP4 repairs. Folks that no longer own their trucks and didn’t pay for CP4 raptors might be entitled to $400 to $800.
Current owners can benefit from the Partial Repair Reimbursement Program. It provides future warranty coverage by reimbursing %0% of the costs of CP4 repairs to General Motors-authorized dealerships.
The warranty covers 12 months after Final Approval of the settlement in January 2025, or when the trucks reach 200,000 miles.
Also, while plaintiffs claim they suffered economic damages as a result of the defective Duramax diesel engine, there are no related deaths or personal injuries.
If you need assistance, reach out to JND Legal Administration. The deadline to file your claim is six months after Final Approval.
