As a car enthusiast, I had a hard time pulling Genesis and Hyundai apart in my head. From an enthusiast’s standpoint, the Genesis coupe was a fun and spirited driver’s car. So, accepting that Genesis is doing its own thing and producing luxury cars was a bit of an odd situation. That being said, the almighty Genesis G90 made quick work of changing my understanding of the brand.

Luxury interior components that battle with the best of them

Inside the Genesis G90, you’ll find a plethora of Nappa leather, microfiber suede, and beautiful woodgrain and brushed metal components. A quick push of the button to close the door so you don’t have to strain yourself reaching for it reminds you that this is a high-class affair. Rightfully so, as the price tag of this particular G90 came in at an eye-watering $100,300.

The more you dive in, though, the more you’ll start to feel like a king. Pick whatever of the four seats you’d like; you’ll have multi-zone massages at your fingertips with the choice of either heating or ventilation. Riding in the back? Excellent, the electric footrest will swing out for you simply by depressing a button on the door.

Perhaps you’re a little concerned about the bacteria on your phone? No worries. Throw it in the rear center console and let the UV light cleaning system take care of it.

What’s it like to drive a Genesis G90?

With the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and accompanying 48-volt electric supercharger system, you’ll find it gets out of its own way with little hesitation. That’s not so surprising, considering it has 409 horsepower on tap. However, with a curb weight north of 5,000 pounds, its zero to 60 sprint in 5.1 seconds is quite impressive.

Maneuvering the G90 is a non-issue, too. Sure, it’s 17.5 feet long. However, it has four-wheel steering, which makes its turning circle more reminiscent of its long-lost Coupe cousin that bore the same name just a decade ago. According to Auto Padre, its turning circle measures just 18.8 feet. That’s on par with a Ford Mustang, for what it’s worth.

The G90’s air suspension and sound deadening make it an absolute pleasure to drive. However, the most luxurious part about it is how little you actually have to drive it. Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic braking ensure all you have to do is keep your eyes on the road and enjoy your massage.

Ultimately, if you look at the 2023 Genesis G90 and still only see a big giant Hyundai, that’s on you. Genesis has gone out of its way to prove a point. That point is that they’re a serious player in the luxury market. Bravo. The Genesis G90 is truly a world-class luxury sedan that can throw punches at the best BMW or Mercedes. The 10-year warranty and 20+ MPG fuel economy are really just juicy cherries on top!
