Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept Is a Sleeker and More Sportier Version of the Midsize GV80
The Genesis brand is on a roll. The South Korean automaker keeps producing world-class vehicles, from their top-rated GV70 SUV to the luxurious full-size GV90 sedan. And now, with the GV80 Coupe concept, they’re set to add a measure of sleek style to their SUV lineup.
With the clean lines of a coupe and the four-door utility of an SUV, the GV80 Coupe Concept offers style and substance. Let’s take a closer look at the Genesis GV80 Coupe and when you can expect it to hit the market.
The Genesis GV80: a versatile midsize SUV
The basis for the GV80 Coupe is the standard GV80, already a strong player in the midsize SUV segment. Featuring the look and feel of European vehicles costing thousands more, the GV80 continues Genesis’ climb through the luxury ranks.
In their review, Car and Driver praised the GV80’s high-grade materials, elegant styling, and comfortable ride. The standard turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 hp and the upgraded twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 375 hp demonstrated strong acceleration and good fuel efficiency. The chassis exhibited controlled handling in corners and over uneven surfaces.
The interior of the GV80 has an understated, refined look with premium touches like metal accents, burled-wood trim, and integrated ambient lighting. Soft yet supportive front seats have a massage function to keep you comfortable no matter how long the trip. An optional third-row seating provides additional room for family and friends.
All trims come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, for all-conditions traction and smooth acceleration. Also standard is a 14.5-inch touchscreen, along with a click-wheel, so you have everything at your fingertips. Since the GV80 has earned a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA), you know it’ll keep you and your occupants safe.
The starting MSRP for the 2023 Genesis GV80 is $56,295. But with so much standard equipment and luxury, that’s money well spent.
The 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe concept: what we know so far
The Genesis GV80 Coupe concept takes the excellent GV80 platform and adds low-slung bodywork and sporty details. Initially presented in bold “Magma” paint, this striking Genesis concept is an exciting take on the modern SUV.
Car and Driver noted the GV80 Coupe Concept’s racy look that included 23-inch wheels, a carbon fiber roof, and a duckbill rear spoiler. Additional high-performance hardware appeared in the form carbon fiber bucket seats covered in Alcantara, a stout cross brace behind the passenger compartment, and drilled and slotted rotors with fixed piston calibers.
At the time of the GV80 Coupe Concept’s unveiling, engine specs weren’t available. But rumors suggest it’ll have the 409 hp twin-turbo V6 from the Genesis G90. That’ll make it one high-performing SUV.
Genesis concept cars flaunt innovation and style
Concept cars like the 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe hint at a company’s future design direction. They also give car companies a chance to push the limits in terms of style, function, and technology. And as of late, Genesis continues pushing the envelope with concepts like the X Coupe, Speedium Coupe, and X Convertible.
The X Coupe features swooping bodywork, sustainable materials, and a futuristic interior. It has a distinctive, classy look reminiscent of European sports sedans.
Genesis presented the Speedium Coupe concept at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and signaled a path toward more sportscar-like designs. With a sloping roofline reminiscent of an Aston Martin, the Speedium Coupe shows Genesis knows how to style a stunning GT.
And with the Genesis X Convertible concept, the company designed a car that’s both graceful and modern. The styling contains subtle edges and long lines, creating a refined look. And the headlights form a triangle-shaped that’s as cool as it is contemporary.
Whatever type of vehicle you’re in the market for, Genesis has something–or something in the works–sure to satisfy your tastes. With their innovative concepts and imaginative ideas, Genesis shows they can compete with the best in the industry.
