Genesis is the luxury arm of Hyundai, and compared to its rivals, it’s a fairly new automaker as it’s only been selling cars in the U.S. since 2016. Despite how new the brand is, Genesis makes a lot of great cars. In fact, two Genesis models currently top U.S. News’ rankings for the 2023 model year.

The 2023 Genesis G90 is the best car in the luxury large car segment

U.S. News recently reviewed the cars in Genesis’ lineup, and one of the standouts was the G90. It competes in the large luxury sedan segment, and it had some tough competition. In fact, all of its rivals were from German luxury automakers, and they included great cars such as the Porsche Panamera, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Audi A7, and the BMW 7-Series. 

Despite facing that type of competition, the G90 won it all as the car critic gave it an overall score of 9.3 out of 10. This was a much better score than the runner-up, which was the A7.

For comparison, the Audi received a score of 9.0 out of 10. Since Genesis is a luxury automaker, the G90 is expensive, starting at about $88,000. That price tag puts it in the middle of the pack for the segment.

What makes the G90 so great, however, is everything else. The South Korean luxury automaker redesigned the car for the 2023 model year, and its interior is a highlight. It’s upscale and luxurious, and it’s well-equipped.

The car also drives well and comes with powerful engine options, including a 409-hp V6. Its only flaw is its fuel economy, as its standard V6 gets about 22 mpg combined.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 is the best luxury compact SUV right now

Similar to the G90, the GV70 is competing in a stacked segment. There are a lot of great SUVs on the market right now, and the GV70 is competing against great options like the BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and the Jaguar F-Pace. Once again though, the GV70 came out on top as it had an overall score of 8.7 out of 10. The runner-ups, which included the X3 and the GLC-Class, only received a score of 8.5 out of 10.

The South Korean luxury automaker didn’t redesign the GV70 for the 2023 model year, but it’s still a nearly-flawless vehicle. U.S. News described its cabin as “gorgeous and well-honed”. Genesis gave the car plenty of standard features, including a 14.5-inch touchscreen display. Its powerful engine options, which include a 375-hp V6 option, also help it drive well. 

On top of that, its ride quality is another high point. The GV70 starts at about $43,000, which makes it one of the more affordable luxury SUV options. The luxury compact SUV’s only flaw has to do with its seats. The car has synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats as standard, but the seats don’t provide too much support for passengers.

Why it’s so impressive that Genesis has two top-rated cars

Since Hyundai owns Genesis, it’s not too surprising that the company is able to build such high-quality cars. Nevertheless, it’s still impressive that the South Korean luxury automaker has been able to enter the luxury market recently and succeed. That is especially true for the GV70.

The SUV market is growing rapidly, so the GV70 has more competitors than the G90 does. Despite the fierce competition from so many renowned automakers, Genesis came out on top in two segments, and that’s not something many other automakers can brag about. Plus, Genesis’ other cars are also great, as the GV60 is ranked second in its segment.
