Ford may have embraced the electric future, but what about its loyal fan base? The American automaker is aware that the transition from gas-powered to electric vehicles won’t be an easy one for many consumers. Here’s how the Blue Oval is proving that classic Ford fans can learn to love EVs.

Ford proved that electric vehicles are still “Built Ford Tough”

The Blue Oval saw SEMA 2021 as the perfect opportunity to prove that electric vehicles can be “Built Ford Tough” too. Ford debuted the F-100 Eluminator concept truck. The Eluminator is an old-school heritage 1978 Ford F-100 that uses a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition powertrain and motors.

The F-100 Eluminator makes a massive 480 horsepower, mirroring the capability of the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. Ford used an old-school body to demonstrate that the company doesn’t need internal combustion engines to create vehicles that live up to its standards. Ford has created generations of beloved pickup trucks and muscle cars that Americans have become attached to.

The F-100 Eluminator’s unique electric crate motor system is an example of the type of electric performance innovation that Ford is pioneering. The electric crate engine was available for sale shortly after its SEMA 2021 debut. It quickly sold out after just a few days.

The electric crate motor went on sale for $3,900. The motor makes 281 horsepower. It is currently being resold on eBay for as much as $4,700. Some consumers may not be on board with the Blue Oval’s push to electrification, but it seems many builders are getting with the times and embracing the change.

The Blue Oval has existed for over a century. The American automaker has impacted generations of drivers. Harold Bagott, an Englishman and lifelong Ford enthusiast, is one of the company’s oldest-living fans. Harold is 101-years-old and learned to drive using the Ford Model T decades ago.

Ford gave Harold the opportunity to drive the Mustang Mach-E because of his loyalty to the Blue Oval. Harold was amazed at how quiet the Mach-E was and approved of the electric SUV. The 101-year-old Ford fan has seen several generations of Ford vehicles and still embraces the Mach-E despite its differences.

According to MotorTrend, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV is so successful that it even outsold the gas-powered Ford Mustang back in June 2021. The Mach-E is regarded as the electric vehicle of the year. The electric SUV is also among the best-selling EVs of 2021.

Electrifying the Mustang nameplate was controversial, to say the least. Many Ford fans are still skeptical about the Mach-E, but the specs prove that the electric SUV has muscle car power. The Blue Oval is doing everything it can to prove to its fans that its new EVs are still “Built Ford Tough”. The arrival of the Ford F-150 Lightning should turn even more skeptics into believers.
