You can boost your Ford Bronco with a Performance Calibration kit 

Get excited to rev your engine because Ford Performance announced a tune for the four-cylinder powered Ford Bronco that adds more power and should enhance its performance. The kit was developed in-house, so it doesn’t void the warranty. However, it requires premium gas. 

The turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque while using 93 Octane. The Performance Calibration kit increases these figures to 330 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque, which is an exciting boost. 

On that note, it’s important to compare engines. The 2.7-liter V6 engine provides 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. But according to Auto Blog, the Ford tune also boosts the throttle response during the rev range. 

The kit optimizes the shift timing in Bronco models equipped with the automatic 10-speed transmission. It also adds a rev-matching function that kicks in while downshifting in models equipped with the seven-speed manual. 

Also, the kit is compatible with 37×12.5R17 BFGoodrich tires, which are found on the Ford Bronco Raptor, and an axle ratio of up to 4.70. But the kit isn’t approved for 2022 California models. You can only tune 201 models in that state, and the kit costs $825 before installation. 

Does the Bronco need more power? 

Well, that depends on who you ask. Some people desire Ford Bronco Raptor power. The Bronco Raptor has a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds. It can tow up to 4,500 lbs. 

Bronco models equipped with the 2.7-liter engine can reach 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds. With this engine, the Bronco can tow up to 3,500 lbs. 

Also, models with the 2.3-liter engine can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in early 7.0 seconds. It can tow up to 3,500 lbs too. The Everglades four-door model maxes out at 3,240. 

It’s unclear if the tuning kit increases its towing capabilities, but the differences between these two engine options are very minimal, aside from torque. 

With more power comes a greater fuel consumption. The 2.3-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. 

What’s new for the 2023 Bronco? 

The 2023 Ford Bronco is primarily a carryover model with a few special editions. For example, you can opt for the Heritage Edition to enjoy a retro style that nods back to the original 1960 models. 

The Heritage Edition comes with a white grille, a white roof, and retro wheel designs. It’s based on the Badlands trim with metal badging and leather-trimmed plaid seats. 

Plus, the Ford Bronco DR (Desert Racer) is ready to tackle the Baja 1000. It’s born to race with a 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine, Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV dampers, a Multimatic safety cage, 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 all-season tires, and Beadlock wheels. 

However, only 50 of these models will be made and are expected to start at around $250,000. If that’s out of your price range, at least you can give your Bronco a little more muscle.
