The newest heavy-duty pickup trucks from General Motors have created significant hype. Many are excited about their production. The 2024 Silverado HD and the Sierra HD will become available in a few short months. So, what General Motors plant will create these pickup trucks, and what is known about them?

Where will GM build the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD?

General Motors (GM) recently unveiled several 2024 truck models that will be built at none other than the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan. It opened in 1947 and is GM’s longest-operating assembly plant, says MLive. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2024 GMC Sierra HD, including the new Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, will be built in Flint.

These new 2024 models will likely start being produced in February 2023. Pricing for the 2024 models should be announced around the same time. According to MLive, GM has increased its share of the heavy-duty pickup truck market from 29% in 2019 to 52% in 2022.

Flint Assembly employs 5,226 people on a 159-acre complex with 5.2-million square feet of manufacturing space. It has produced more than 15 million vehicles in its 75-year history, including heavy-duty crew and regular cab pickup trucks.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD

The heavy-duty truck models will both have thorough upgrades for 2024. The 2024 Silverado HD will have two engine options: a 6.6-liter gas engine with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque and an enhanced Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 with an estimated 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. GM enhanced the low-end torque by up to 25%, improving the truck’s performance at low speeds while climbing and trailering.

The Detroit News reports that an Allison 10-speed transmission will come standard with either engine, a change for 2024. The Silverado 2500 can tow up to 22,500 pounds, while the Silverado 3500 can tow up to 36,000 pounds.

The Silverado HD’s trim levels will include the Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country. New for 2024 is a ZR2 trim that will be available later. The Silverado HD’s front will sport a new fascia, headlights, and grille. The truck is expected to have improved towing technology, a redesigned interior, an optional 13.4-inch-diagonal touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch-diagonal driver information center.

Some trim levels will have leather-wrapped surfaces, real wood accents, a center console, wireless charging, and hidden storage spaces. Adaptive cruise control will be a new feature. The Silverado HD will continue to offer automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane departure warning, and following distance indicator. All-in-all it should be decked out with a slew of great features.

The 2024 GMC Sierra HD

According to Car and Driver, the Sierra HD offers more luxury and finish than the Silverado HD. The new 2024 Sierra Denali Ultimate will be the “most advanced luxurious heavy-duty pickup truck in its class,” says GM. The Sierra HD has the same engine, transmission, and towing capabilities as its twin.

Its trim levels include the Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and the new Denali Ultimate, providing an even greater luxury level. The front of the truck will have a redesigned Denali grille with darkened “Vader chrome.” The GMC badge will also be made of Vader chrome. The truck will have the Denali Ultimate fender badge, LED headlights, taillights, power-retractable assist steps, and LED perimeter lighting. Most trim levels have an eight-inch touchscreen, but a 13.4-inch touchscreen is available. The larger screen is standard for the Denali and the Denali Ultimate.

The Sierra Denali Ultimate has leather-wrapped door panels and steering wheel, Paldao wood trim pieces, and a soft microsuede headliner. The front seats are 16-way power adjustable plus heated and cooled. They sport leather stitching of a topographic map of Alaska’s Mount Denali. The Sierra comes standard with forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available.

Buyers in the United States waiting for the newest heavy-duty pickup trucks from General Motors will soon be able to take home the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD or GMC Sierra HD, thanks to the efforts of those in the Flint Assembly plant.
