We’ve all said it. We squeeze the trigger on something fast and torquey, your head snaps back and you feel that rush ram hard at your back. Acceleration will sometimes make you do it, or at least think it. Well, now GMC has added a WTF Mode to the upcoming Hummer. But WTF is it?

Can WTF Mode be what we think it is?

With zero-to-60 mph times in three seconds, the Hummer would seem to be one light, nimble accelerating machine. Weighing in at almost 10,000 lbs and the size of a tank, it is neither. But with so much power, it can accelerate like a beast. 

So if you want that extra kick at launch, you engage the WTF Mode, which stands for “Watts to Freedom.” It warns passengers and prepares the Hummer for a swift kick in the head. Once engaged, the Hummer lowers a few inches, like hunkering down to spring. It also prepares the battery for a full-frontal assault of demand. 

1,000 hp gets slammed to the Hummer rear wheels

Next, it will ask you to apply the brakes. With that, the seats and subwoofer begin vibrating. Then, it slams the full 1,000 hp to the rear wheels all at once. 

To add a little sizzle, WTF Mode also adds an audio enhancement. Once the pedal is mashed, an “immersive sensory experience” is released. Aaron Pfau, the lead development engineer of the Hummer, told PowernationTV that the sound was inspired by the Formula E electric racing series. GMC is so happy to show you what a WTF launch looks like it has even compiled a couple of short vids just to get the idea across. 

Sometimes, you have to wonder if GMC would be wise to just offer a V8 hybrid system for those that are really jonesing for or needing all of these internal combustion cues? Maybe it should include a release of an artificial gasoline smell into the cabin We are sort of joking, but it seems that GM wants buyers to have it both ways, as much as it can, anyway. Just in case. 

Is all of this enough to entice you to spend $112,595?

So this is one more trick or gimmick, to entice you to spend the $112,595 and be one of the first to WTF in your new Hummer. The first ones should be at dealerships shortly. They’ll be followed by less expensive versions over the next year to entice still more. 

Reservations for the 2022 Edition 1 pickup model sold out quickly. For 2024, an SUV version launches, and the Edition 1 of it has sold out as well. So if you are planning on picking one up you should get after it.
