How long is the waitlist for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV?
As of November 2022, the waitlist would take over two years to complete. Granted, that is to fulfill GMC‘s orders for the electric Hummer back then. Consider now another five months or people wanting the new Hummer.
Road and Track reported that Duncan Aldred, the global VP for Buick and GMC, claimed during a media briefing for the GMC Sierra EV reveal that both the pickup and SUV body styles are “sold out for two years or more.
That shakes out to be 2025 before those orders are filled. To be clear, GMC closed the ordering book in September 2022. This means that this time frame only covers those orders. If you want a GMC Hummer EV and don’t have a reservation, there is no telling when you might get your hands on one.
How many GMC Hummer EVs have been ordered so far?
GMC says there are nearly 100,000 orders placed for the ground-breaking new super Hummer. Of those orders, GMC has only made 2570 units, all of which are the pickup truck version. If you want the Hummer EV SUV, you better start eating healthy and working out because that wait will be long.
On top of the shocking demand, the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan had to be shut down last November because of some needed updates, says Road & Track.
Why is the wait so long for the Hummer EV?
Like most other manufacturers, GM has experienced an unfortunate series of production delays, supply chain issues, and factory closures over the past few years. These issues have kept production behind. The issues compound because there is also a nearly record level of demand by customers. The result is high demand and low supply, which drives demand even higher and supply even lower. It’s a right mess.
Aside from the Hummer’s limited nature, the performance has the people foaming at the mouth. Not only is the new Hummer electric, so you don’t have to feel bad about owning a Hummer and destroying the Earth, but it also has 1,000 hp. Yep, 1,000 of them. This power means the positively giant pickup truck can throw itself from 0-60 mph in only 3 seconds. That is the same as a Lamborghini Huracan. Oh, and it only takes another 3 seconds to cross 100 mph. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is faster than greased lightning. If that weren’t enough, there is also a laundry list of insane features like CrabWalk mode, Super Cruise, and an infotainment screen programmed by Epic Games, the maker of multiple very popular video games.
Overall this new Hummer is in a class all its own. Too bad it’s going to take until the sun explodes to fill the orders. Maybe production can ramp up in 2023. Either way, don’t fret if you are waiting for a 2022 GMC Hummer EV, just forget about it and be surprised when they are available.
