GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck Deliveries for 2023 Might Look Like an April Fools Joke, But It’s Really This Bad
Although April Fools just happened, this is not a joke. We have all heard some pretty abysmal stories about long wait times for new cars, SUVs, and trucks in general. Some of the more limited and popular models, like Ford Broncos and Chevrolet Corvettes, have made some pretty strange headlines. However, none of them can compare to how poorly the rollout of the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck is going for 2023. General Motors deliveries for 2023 are bad – like, bad bad.
How many GMC Hummer EV trucks have been delivered in 2023?
According to CarBuzz, GM has only delivered two GMC Hummer EVs during the first three months of the year. Two. Like, the number that comes after one. That’s how many units have gone to customers this year.
Why are GMC Hummer EVs deliveries so slow?
We all know that car production has struggled for the past few years. On top of slow supply, there have been production issues paired with high demand. It’s a bit of a perfect storm of suck. However, the GMC Hummer is getting hit in even more ways. The biggest issue that led to only two Hummers getting delivered so far this year is the fact that GM had to issue a stop sale on the Hummer and Brightdrop Zevo 600 commercial van for improperly sealed batteries. Again, this comes alongside all the other issues and a current wait list with some odd 90,000 reservations.
That said, According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), only 797 units were affected by the battery issue. So why are deliveries so low?
What’s going on with the electric Hummer?
“We were under a recall/stop-delivery, and we halted production to fix it. Production resumed on January 30 of this year, and shipments resumed right [at] the end of Q1. [The] Q2 sales report will show deliveries of both the Hummer EV Pickup and SUV,” said a GM spokesperson to The Fast Lane Truck.
These delays are not only disheartening, but they also risk causing customers to lose interest. While some people are told they may have to wait as long as three years for their Hummer delivery, there will still be plenty of new and exciting cars to come out in that time. Why wait?
However frustrating the wait might be, Hummers are leaving the factory again. Last year, GM delivered 99 units during the same time. That is still horribly slow, but it is at least 98% more than this year.
Is GM selling EVs?
Despite the many production issues plaguing the Hummer, GM is still selling the stew out of EVs. According to CarBuzz, “Bolt and Bolt EV sales increased by a staggering 5,402.8% compared to last year, with a healthy 19,700 units leaving showroom floors in the first quarter.” Also, Cadillac somehow managed to sell nearly 1,000 units of the Cadilac Lyriq crossover. However, these figures are all small peanuts compared to the marque’s highest seller, the Silverado, which cleared a total of 126,992 units reaching customers by the end of Q1.
A booming car market is no bad thing. However, production delays have severely disrupted new car pricing and have added an element of scalping the more limited models, resulting in crazy price gauging. Here’s to hoping that GM can get their Hummer machines pumping out the anticipated EV.
