Too late. If you wanted a new 2024 GMC Sierra EV, you’ll have to wait even longer. Maybe it was the promise of 754 horsepower and a 400-mile range, but GMC stopped taking deposits for the truck within 15 minutes. Why did the truck sell out so fast, and what can you do about it if you want one?

How much is the new GMC electric Sierra EV pickup?

After just 15 minutes, GMC was out of reservation slots, according to Fox News. Each reservation was $100, and they are non-binding, which means you won’t be forced to buy a truck if your order becomes available. That could be a good thing because the first edition of the truck, the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, will cost $107,000. GMC will build less than 10,000 Edition 1 trucks.

The $100 reservation fee is refundable. GMC says that when it comes time for your truck to be built, you’ll get a purchase order that confirms the details, final price, and a delivery date. You’ll also need to identify and choose a dealer where you can pick up your pickup.

What is the Edition 1 of the new GMC electric Sierra EV Truck?

GMC’s Edition 1 branding got affixed to the first Hummer EV trucks, and now the new GMC electric Sierra gets similar badging. GMC trucks generally get luxury options that are denied to buyers of Chevy trucks, even if they’re the same basic truck, and Edition 1 really brings the luxury. Denali means luxury for GMC, and in the EV’s case, you’ll get open-pore wood, a panoramic glass roof, etched stainless steel, special seats, and more. It also includes a massive 16.8-inch touchscreen, GM’s hands-free Super Cruise software, air ride adaptive suspension, and four-wheel steering with the CrabWalk feature, and funky headlights.

The GMC Sierra EV makes how much power?

Not that long ago, horsepower figures of 300 or 400 horsepower seemed massive. But, EVs are trumping those figures on the regular. For example, the GMC Hummer EV has 1,000 horsepower, a number that was reserved for $1 million supercars like Bugattis. Now, the Sierra EV will pack 754 horsepower, and an astonishing 785 lb-ft of torque. That should be enough twist, GMC says, to get this truck to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

Can I still order a GMC Sierra EV? What about the Chevy Silverado EV?

The order form disappeared from the GMC website. But, you can still sign up for GMC Sierra EV waitlist and get email notifications about a reservation. There is no fee to sign up for the waitlist.

But, if you want a GM electric truck, you have two other options. GMC sells the Hummer EV truck, though those have been back-ordered as well. You may be able to get a new Chevy Silverado EV sooner, however. The Silverado EV should hit dealers next year and it’s the same truck as the GMC, but with a different look that includes flying buttresses behind the cab. The Silverado also gets an interior that looks more like the regular Silverado 1500, which means it gets a large horizontal screen.
