The GMC Sierra EV Is A lot More Expensive Than the Best Electric Pickup Truck, That Feels Dumb
The GMC Sierra EV has been released. It pairs with the Chevy Silverado EV. It also falls alongside the first luxury EV from GM, the GMC Hummer EV. Like many other especially cars and trucks, the Sierra EV is coming in hot with the fanciest trim, the Denali Edition 1. The inaugural trim isn’t just fancy in name; the GMC Sierra EV starts at $107,000. That is a lot more expensive than the Rivian R12t; the best electric pickup truck in the game.
How much does an electric pickup truck cost?
If you have had time to pick your jaw up off the floor from the $107,000 price tag of the GMC Sierra EV then I’ll hit you with some more insane electric pickup truck prices. Some of the more noteworthy options for electric pickup trucks are the Ford Lightning, which is the cheapest electric truck currently for sale in the states, starting at $55,974. While that’s a ton of money, it’s nothing compared to the first and best electric pickup truck, the Rivian R1T. The Rivian starts at $74,800. If you want to keep your bow tie on, the Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition starts at an eye-watering $105,000. It’s fair to say you’ve average pickup truck owner won’t be getting any of these any time soon. These EVs are for wealthy business people and gentleman farmers.
Is the Rivian R1T the best electric pickup truck?
Rivian was the first company to put an all-electric pickup truck on the market. The roll-out was messy, and pricing got kind of weird there for a bit. However, those who have managed to get their hands on a Rivian R1T seem to like them. In fact, MotorTrend called it “the most remarkable pickup truck we’ve ever driven.” The glowing reviews only start with that statement.
Not only does Rivian own the intangible bragging rights of being the first, but it also stays in the limelight for not only its immense luxury but also its capability, practical features, and unique design. The Rivian doesn’t have the longest range at 315, but it isn’t bad. The R1T, depending on configuration, can have 600 to 835 hp. That power, paired with the Truck’s AWD system, is a force to be reckoned with.
Is the Rivian R1T better than the GMC Sierra EV?
Considering the GMC EV hasn’t been driven yet, this question is tough to answer. However, the GMC seems like a tough sell at that price point. The Denali package is sure to be mighty luxurious, and it is promised to have 754 hp and 785 lb.-ft. of torque in Max Power mode. This full-size pickup can do a 0-60 mph sprint in only 4.5 seconds.
The Sierra should be one hell of a pickup truck. However, the price point of it and its corporate cousin, the Chevy Silverado EV, feel absurd. These are pickup trucks. Sure, the Hummer EV is in this range too, but it’s clearly a different thing. The Silverado and Sierra are blue-collar work machines that just transformed into luxury SUVs with a bed.
The only thing to do now is to wait and see what the truck market does with these silent super-powered pickups.
