Go Used: Cheapest 2019 Pickup Trucks to Own
Cheap to buy isn’t the same as cheap to own. But going with four-year-old pickup trucks gets you closer to having both. Factoring in maintenance costs, miles per gallon, and purchase price, these five cheapest trucks hit a sweet spot for affordability. And note that only one American truck made the list.
5. 2019 Nissan Frontier trucks
As you would expect mid-size trucks have an edge when it comes to the purchasing price. In the Los Angeles area, we see low mileage examples going for between $17,000 and $24,000. The lower-optioned Frontiers are the cheapest to maintain because they have less to go wrong. But that also means driver-assist features are MIA. They are fully off-road capable and make for a less-expensive truck from 2019.
4. 2019 Nissan Titan
Surprisingly, the 2019 Titan is the cheapest full-size truck to maintain. But reliability has been an issue. So how can it be a cheap truck to maintain? Because it has a five-year 100,000-mile warranty. It has a long list of standard features, which is partially why reliability gets mentioned. But that bumper-to-bumper warranty should take care of anything that goes south on your Titan. The Titan has maintained its value, so the used price for a 2019 may look high. In the Atlanta, Georgia area, we see prices for low mileage examples range from $24,000 to $42,000.
3. 2019 Ram 1500 trucks
This was the first year for the all-new 1500, and Ram sold a lot of them. So finding a used 2019 is not as difficult as finding a similar Nissan Titan. And it offers a wide range of engines, including the hybrid engine which comes standard. It also features air suspension, automatic emergency braking, and mobile WiFi. Looking at prices in and around Chicago, 2019 Ram truck prices vary between $27,000 and $42,000. That wide range is partly due to trims and mileage. There are the 1500s with as little as 8,500 miles, to over 140,000 miles, but there are quite a few listings to help you pick.
2. 2019 Toyota Tacoma
Another midsize, the Tacoma, as with most Toyota products, has a great reliability record. What helps those reliability scores are free routine service for two years or 25,000 miles. There are also many safety features available if that is important to you. Mileage can go up to 24 mpg, helping with its cheap trucks cost of ownership. U.S. News gives it a four out of five for reliability, which is above average. There have been some complaints about transmissions shuddering from 2015 to 2019 Tacos, but with 2019 being the tail end of reported issues, it was mostly corrected by then.
1. 2019 Toyota Tundra trucks
Much of what is praised about the Tacoma applies to the Tundra, too. Maintenance cost is the key factor in being number one on this list. The Tundra has a long list of standard safety features that include forward collision warning, forward emergency braking, lane departure, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. Looking in Tennessee and neighboring Arkansas and Alabama, 2019 Tundras are going for around $26,000 to $37,000. Again, trims and mileage attribute to the gap between prices.
