Goats commandeer Alabama deputy’s patrol car: ‘Are you kidding me?’

Deputy Casey Thrower, from Madison County, Alabama, with around 40 years of service, has likely seen many unusual things while on duty. However, it might be hard to top his recent encounter with a unique obstacle. 

Last week, while serving civil papers, some hungry goats checked out his patrol car to see if there was anything to eat. Fortunately, for our viewing pleasure, there’s video footage of the hilarious incident.

After seeing the goats in the police car, Deputy Thrower yelled, “Get out of there! Are you kidding me?” While likely unintended, Deputy Thrower did a play on words, for “kid” is the name for a baby goat.

Deputy Thrower left the door open, enabling the goats to enter the car and munch on police paperwork

It was easy for the goats to break into the patrol car. They didn’t have to break any windows or pick any locks. All they had to do was jump into the police vehicle, for the door was already open. 

Why did Deputy Thrower leave the door open, you might ask? As reported by WXFR, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that he “sometimes leaves his patrol vehicle open in case he has to run from dogs.”

However, instead of running from dogs, Deputy Thrower found a pair of hungry goats — munching on police paperwork in his patrol car. As the goats nonchalantly nibbled on the paperwork, he tried to scare them away. Deputy Thrower shouted, “Quit eating that! Get out of here!” 

The video also shows a goat on top of the patrol car while the other continues eating the paperwork. However, eventually, Deputy Thrower was able to get the goats off his vehicle.

Deputy Thrower’s co-workers at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office couldn’t resist poking fun at the hilarious and unusual incident. It added some goat-related puns too:

Goats have a much-deserved reputation for eating nearly anything — with their four-compartment stomachs. They are herbivores and primarily eat grass, but mountain goats also eat mosses and other plants. However, as detailed by Live Science, “many domestic goats will also eat trash, house plants, or any other items they find lying around.”
