How Good Is the 2022 Ford F-150 XL Pickup Truck?
As one of the most popular full-size pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 has long enjoyed life at the top. It is available in a variety of trim levels, ranging from base work truck to truly luxurious family hauler. The 2022 Ford F-150 XL is the bottom trim level of this pickup. But, it certainly is not as basic as full-size trucks of the past. It comes with a number of modern touches while still retaining a level of simplicity that fits right in at the job site. Just how good is it?
What is the 2022 Ford F-150 XL?
The Ford F-150 XL is the base model of Ford’s full-size truck. It has a starting MSRP of $31,520, which makes it fairly cheap when compared to the higher trims of this pickup. Multiple configurations are also available, meaning even if you do buy the bottom trim, you can still get a truck that fits your needs.
Standard fare includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a backup camera with Dynamic Hitch Assist, and a V6 engine. For what you’re paying, that does seem like a fairly good package. Especially if you do not want a pickup with all of the bells and whistles.
What engine does the F-150 XL have?
Each 2022 Ford F-150 XL comes standard with a 3.3-liter V6 engine. This powerplant makes 290 horsepower and 265 pound-foot of torque. This engine has been featured in the F-150 for some time. And it has proved itself as a reliable workhorse for a full-size truck.
If you want more power or more efficiency, the XL trim is not limited to a single engine. There are a range of engines that you can opt for, and you can even make the F-150 XL a hybrid truck. Available engine options include:
- 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6
- 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6
- 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8
- 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6
It is nice that Ford even offers its new hybrid engine to the base 2022 F-150. You do not have to worry about climbing the trim levels in order to get a full-hybrid truck.
Is the new Ford F-150 a good truck?
If sales are any indication, the Ford F-150 is still one of the better full-size trucks on the market. In 2021, it was able to outsell the Ram 1500, which is probably its top competitor. According to Car and Driver, one of its biggest cons might be how quickly the price rises from the base XL model.
Although the bottom trim starts around $30,000, you can spend well over $60k to get an F-150 that features top-of-the-line equipment. Clearly, at least in the United States, trucks are not simply tools anymore. They have risen to true status symbols, letting others know that you’ve made it.
But, if you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a pickup, the 2022 Ford F-150 XL can be equipped pretty well. Just don’t expect all of the features you would find in a different F-150.
