Good Heavy Duty Pickup Trucks for Less Than $10,000?
If you are looking for a big, heavy duty pickup truck for under $10,000 you are already painfully aware that they don’t come easy. What you will mostly find in this price range are either generations back or ragged-out high mileage work trucks. That said, it’s still possible to find one with some towing miles left on it in this price bracket.
You most likely won’t find a diesel engine (though it’s possible with patience and perusing) or much in the way of anything modern whatsoever. But, if you just need something to haul that heavy camper to the park for the weekend or an old rusty trusty to pull a few horses behind –– they’re out there. You just have to know what to look for.
Ford F-Series Super Duty
Of all the big ultra-capable towing trucks out there, the Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty are probably going to be the easiest to find. For under $10,000 you’ll probably end up in a 2-wheel-drive XL work truck powered by a V8, according to TruckTrend. But you can find them for this price as new as 2015 if you aren’t afraid of high mileage.
And, if super high mileage isn’t something you balk at, it’s possible to find 4-wheel-drive options with a crew cab and a Powerstroke diesel engine. Of course, these finds will be a little rougher around the edges. Still, they can have several years of hauling left ahead. The older Ford F-Series Super Duty are good heavy duty pickup trucks for less than $10,000.
Ram 2500 or 3500
The Dodge or RAM trucks (as they have been called since 2009) are another line that is similarly easy to find as Ford. Keep in mind that these trucks did not offer an actual crew cab until 2010, so anything older than that won’t have that option. But, it’s quite possible to find good examples of a Dodge Ram pickup truck in a variety of cab options.
It’s also possible to find more 4-wheel-drive options of the Ram trucks than some of the others out there. Most of them will have the V8 engine. However, older Dodge Ram trucks with 250,000 miles and over ar good heavy duty pickup trucks that can be had with a Cummins diesel engine for under $10,000.
GM pickup trucks
The Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra in their 2500 and 3500 HD versions will show up in your search, too. Truck Trend says that finding one of these for less than $10,000 will put you in the 2001-2007 range. They are good heavy duty pickup trucks for less than $10,000, and most commonly found this cheap with a 6 liter V8 and 2-wheel-drive.
If you want a GM truck with the Duramax diesel engine, you’re looking at a big old truck with 300,000 miles on it. They will still haul a load and have some life left in them yet, but may require a little more maintenance than something with lower mileage. The GM trucks are hard to find cheap with lower mileage or any newer than around a 2010.
Heavy duty pickup trucks
It is absolutely possible to find an older pickup truck for less than $10,000. Just know that they will be workhorse trucks that have seen alot of life already. They are proven haulers, but won’t be boasting big crew cabs or knocked out interiors. If you want a good heavy duty pickup truck but your budget maxes at $10,000, take a look at some of these and you may find exactly what you’re searching for.
