Good Luck Trying to Buy This Special Edition GMC Truck Fans Have Wanted for Years
Tuscany Motor Company has made quite a few special-edition Ford trucks over the years. The customizer turned an F-150 into a full-size Tonka truck, for example. But Tuscany is perhaps best known for the F-150 and F-250 Harley-Davidson edition trucks, reboots of pickups once made by Ford. But while Tuscany does customize and modify GM trucks, it’s only Blue Oval fans who were able to get a Harley-styled truck. Until now, that is. Tuscany has announced a special edition GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson truck—but is it actually as special as it’s made out to be?
Special edition GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson truck details
Like the F-150 Harley-Davidson edition, the GMC Sierra doesn’t receive any extra power. But it does receive a stylistic overhaul.
Tuscany replaces the stock Sierra wheels with 22” aluminum ones inspired by the Harley-Davidson Fatboy. The truck also gets Harley-designed fender flares, front and rear bumpers, and a new mesh grille. Harley-Davidson badges are liberally spread over the special edition GMC truck: on the (functional) fender vents, the custom two-tone diamond-stitched leather seats, the center armrest, the floor mats, the tonneau cover, and even on the billet pedals and in the gauges.
The gauges themselves are also new, made of stainless steel. The “Harley-Davidson” name is also found in several places around the GMC truck: on the tailgate, the door panels, and below the grille. The windows are also tinted.
But, like Roush did with its F-150 package, Tuscany didn’t only focus on style. The 22” wheels are wrapped in 35” all-terrain tires, the new bumper comes with a skid plate and off-road LED light bar, and the Sierra gets a custom BDS suspension lift with Fox shocks. The powered running boards also receive rock guards and lights. And Tuscany gives the special edition GMC truck a functional ram-air hood and custom exhaust. The exhaust tips get orange accents, as do the tow hooks and grille.
Pricing and availability
The special edition GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson doesn’t come cheap. The truck, which is built on a V8 Sierra, starts at $94,995. That’s actually more than the F-150 Harley-Davidson edition. But the GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson will be rarer.
Tuscany will only build 250 of these special edition GMC trucks, each with a unique numbered center console badge. The trucks will be available from select GMC dealers starting in February and come with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
Is the ‘special edition’ GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson truck really special?
Neither GMC nor Tuscany has specified which Sierra trims can be turned into Harley-Davidson editions. However, the press release specifies that all the Harley-Davidson trucks will come with V8 engines.
But just because a truck is a ‘limited-edition’ doesn’t necessarily mean you should go out and buy it. True, unlike the F-150 Harley-Davidson edition, which has no set production limit, the GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson will be actually ‘limited.’ But beyond wheels, seats, and styling, there isn’t anything inherently ‘special’ about this special-edition GMC truck.
And if you don’t get your hands on one, you can build a regular GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation to a similar spec. Just equip it with the 5.3-liter V8, four-wheel drive, and the X31 Off-Road and Performance Upgrade packages. The X31 package includes skid plates, Rancho shocks, hill descent control, and a number of other off-road features. The Performance Upgrade package, meanwhile, installs a cat-back exhaust and a performance air intake. Unfortunately, the X31 package means you can’t get 22” wheels.
However, you can get a similar BDS suspension kit as the GMC Sierra Harley-Davidson. BDS offers a 6” coilover version for just under $3,700. Add up the cost of everything, and you get a GMC Sierra that can rival the Harley-Davidson edition for about $53,500.
GMC fans have a choice, then: bragging rights, or more money in the bank.
