Grading Safety in the 2023 Toyota Crown
Toyota has a new flagship sedan for 2023, as the Toyota Crown replaces the Avalon this year. But does the Toyota Crown offer the safety of the brand’s other models? So far, neither the IIHS or NHTSA have yet put the premium Toyota to the test. However, we can look at the Crown’s standard safety features to see what it has to offer.
Standard driver safety tech in the Toyota Crown
For 2023, the Toyota flagship comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The latest version of the brand’s driver assistance tech now offers more advanced technology to aid in road safety.
That means the Toyota Crown has the latest safety tech, including forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. However, the newest system also includes lane tracing assist. Together with dynamic cruise control, it works to keep the vehicle centered in its lane.
As an added bonus, the system also includes an emergency stop system. It that detect when the driver isn’t paying attention and bring the vehicle to a safe stop. This is a key feature to making any semi-autonomous driving system safer, and we’re happy to see it included in the Crown.
Furthermore, the 2023 Toyota Crown earns safety props for its Proactive Driving Assist system. This uses both camera and radar sensors to detect curves and vehicles ahead. When it senses any of these, it will gently apply the brakes and can even offer steering assistance to avoid a potential crash.
The 2023 Toyota Crown comes standard with blind-spot monitoring
With rollover protection comes a lack of visibility, as pillars and rooflines change to protect occupants. Thick rear pillars and a higher beltline make for limited sightlines in most modern cars.
The 2023 Toyota Crown deals with this by including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist as standard features. In this way, the Crown is both safe in a collision and allows for greater safety on the road.
Available safety features
While the Toyota Crown comes with a wealth of standard safety features, there are some optional add-ons as well.
A panoramic view monitor uses cameras placed around the vehicle to stitch a 360-degree picture of the surrounding environment. In addition, front and rear parking assist not only warns of a possible collision, but also applies the brakes automatically to prevent it.
No crash tests to determine Toyota Crown safety
So far, no entities have officially crash tested the 2023 Toyota Crown to give us any collision ratings. However, the Toyota Camry is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award winner for 2023, and we’d be surprised if the Crown didn’t meet the same high standards.
