Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) is easily one of the most anticipated racing games of the last five years. Fans anticipated that GT7 would release along with the PlayStation 5 (PS5) console. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Sony kept hope alive by releasing several teasers for Gran Turismo 7, which suggested that the game would release in 2021. In the meantime, Gran Turismo became an Olympic sport.

Today we know that gamers will not get their hands on the driving simulator until March of 2022. The good news is that Gran Turismo 7 will not be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 video game console. Considering how difficult it is to get a PS5 right now, it should be a sigh of relief for gamers to know they can pick up GT7 for the PlayStation 4 as well.

In addition to the release date, Sony has revealed more details about the various versions of Gran Turismo 7 players can choose when the game launches next year.

Since Gran Turismo 7 is the 25th anniversary of the franchise, the developers wanted to make sure the game comes included with a few special bonuses.

Here are the unique cars that will come with Gran Turismo 7.

Porsche 917 LIVING LEGEND

The Porsche 917 LIVING LEGEND is a concept car built by a small design team within Porsche. Porsche 917 is built as a tribute to the 1970 Le Mans-winning race car. The concept car is a modern take on that classic 70s racer with a similar silhouette and color scheme.

The Porsche 917 concept uses adaptive aerodynamics and features a carbon fiber “skin.” The chassis is carbon fiber as well. The suspension components come from the Porsche 918 hypercar. The Porsche 917 is powered by a 5.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that makes between 750 and 1,000 horsepower.

Naturally, since the Porsche 917 is a concept car, very few people got to experience driving it. Now they can in Gran Turismo 7.

Mazda RX-VISION GT3 Concept

Since the RX-8 was discontinued, Mazda has done everything it can to keep fans on the hook, hoping that they will bring back a vehicle powered by a rotary engine. By now, we can assume that it will never happen. However, when Mazda was still actively trying to convince everyone that the rotary would return, part of that campaign was partnering with Gran Turismo to create the RX-VISION concept car.

The Mazda RX-VISION is theoretically what an “RX-9” would look like if Mazda ever decided to actually produce one. Its long sleek shape comes directly from its current design language. Those who pre-order Gran Turismo 7, they’ll get the chance to virtually drive the GT3 race car version of the Mazda RX-VISION.

1997 Toyota Supra GT500 (Castrol TOM’S)

Any JDM fanboy or fangirl that grew up in the ‘90s will instantly recognize this car. This Mk IV Toyota Supra was a force to be reckoned with in the JGTC (Japan Grand Touring Championship) series.

A little-known fact about this iconic 90s race car is that it was not powered by the legendary Toyota 2JZ-GTE engine commonly found in Supras. Back then, the JGTC had very free engine rules and allowed teams to run whatever engine they wanted as long as it was from the same manufacturer as the chassis they raced. So the TOM’S team utilized the four-cylinder 3S-GTE turbocharged engine. The smaller engine allowed for optimal weight distribution. This car has been featured in previous Gran Turismo games, so considering that Gran Turismo 7 is the 25th anniversary of the series, we’re not surprised to see it return.

To get the three cars we mentioned in this article, players will have to pre-order the “Launch Edition” or “25th Anniversary Edition” of Gran Turismo 7. Pre-ordering the game also includes other goodies like in-game credits that players can use to buy other cars or modifications.

Though for some players, getting to race with these cars virtually will be more than enough.
