Joel Negus is a music composer, producer, and sound engineer. He owns Cleveland Scoring, a recording studio. This week, Negus posted a sweet video of his family excitedly waiting at the end of their driveway for a special someone to return: their Grammy.

While we watch the story unfold, Negus explains the circumstances. “The kids were sad because the ice cream man was in our neighborhood but didn’t come on our street,” he posts. Suddenly, a car horn honks. The kids and their mom all start waving.

“So she did the most Grammy thing ever and got in her car.”

Grammy decided to grab her Toyota Camry and track down the ice cream truck. Negus says he has no idea what transpired between the truck driver and Grammy, but soon enough, they both enter the scene. “She returned with the ice cream man behind her.”

Grammy’s Toyota Camry turns into the driveway as she raises a triumphant arm through the open left front window. The ice cream truck rolls in, music blaring. Negus laughs and calls out, “Good job, Grammy!” The kids are clearly thrilled with Grammy’s mission and success.

Ice cream trucks are typically custom-built or modified vans. Manufacturers include Chevrolet, Grumman, and Ford, but there are many others. If you pay casual attention, you’ll start to see a healthy mix of step vans and converted cargo vans. You might also spot some charmingly retro models converted into sweet work trucks.

In terms of the music, you’ll hear “The Entertainer” or “Turkey in the Straw” most often. Listen to the latter below to get that stored memory pulled from its dusty file. I did an “Oh, right!” myself after a quick Google.
