It started with a simple – maybe OCD-related – “correction.” Years ago, Jared Ewy, a comedian and dad living in Colorado, noticed a crooked manhole cover on a local residential road. Whoever removed and reinstalled the cover didn’t match the paint lines up. Ewy kept an eye on it over time. It never got corrected. After some years, the lack of symmetry became too much for him to bear. Last December, he decided to do something about it.

“I’m gonna take it upon myself to straighten this out…to fix our future.”

Call it obsessive-compulsive, but Ewy hilariously claimed that seeing the crooked manhole cover over and over “hurt him physically.”

Before getting started, he gave context about the manhole cover’s location. “This is a neighborhood where the homes look like elementary schools…I’ll probably end up on Next Door.” He also points out that his “cozy” outfit probably doesn’t aid the image.

Manhole covers are heavy – around 100 to 250 pounds. Since Ewy didn’t have the proper tools to handle the cover, he resorted to using a crowbar to pry it up.

After he helped “align the universe,” his work didn’t stop.

“Such an egregious break…in everything we hold dear.”

Ewy continued to spot misaligned manhole covers. Folks actually started sending him the locations of crooked manhole covers – still without the right tools.

The comedian and dad explained that while people suggest he get a manhole cover tool and a vest, “Things are tight. I have kids in youth sports.”

“Twin twisties” and “villains” keep him busy

In this reel, he dons a gifted high-visibility vest and whips out a newer tool: a blue manhole cover hook, which a follower also sent him.

The guy is just truly funny. He’s by himself filming these bits, but you feel like you’re right there with him as part of his crew.
