Elon Musk and Tesla once had a considerable amount of positive buzz. However, their luster has faded in the wake of Musk’s divisive behavior. This includes allegations of racism and sexual misconduct, concerns about the treatment of employees, his recent Twitter takeover bid, accusations of coronavirus (COVID-19) misinformation, and much more. In the past, there weren’t many electric vehicles available other than Teslas. However, there are now many other good choices. Do you hate Elon Musk? Buy one of these EVs instead of Tesla.

Buy a Rivian R1T or R1S instead of a Tesla if you hate Elon Musk

The Rivian R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV are both good alternatives to a Tesla for Elon Musk-hating EV buyers. Musk undoubtedly views Rivian as a competitive threat. He negatively commented about Rivian multiple times in response to the EV startup racking accolades and positive media coverage.

In some respects, Rivian took the mantle from Tesla as the darling of the eco-minded EV buyer community. The R1T and R1S are geared toward outdoor enthusiasts. Also, Rivian makes conservation a top priority. The EV startup has a Forever Fund, in which it donates 1% of the company’s equity to climate initiatives and ecosystem preservation projects.

On top of that, the R1T and R1S are phenomenal vehicles. The R1T earned the illustrious 2022 MotorTrend Truck of the Year award. Both electric vehicles have sports sedan-like performance, with agile handling and a 0-60 mph time as low as three seconds. Also, with their quad-motor all-wheel drive system, the R1T and R1S are excellent for off-road use.

The Fisker Ocean is a good EV to buy for those who dislike Musk and Tesla

Another good electric vehicle to buy for those who dislike Musk and Tesla is the Fisker Ocean crossover SUV. Like Rivian, Fisker is also a target of Musk. The Ocean delivers Tesla-like performance at a considerably more affordable price. It has a 0-60 mph time as low as 3.6 seconds and a starting price of only $37,499. In comparison, the cheapest Tesla vehicle available, the Model 3, currently has a starting price of $46,990.

Also, the Ocean has some innovative features. This includes a touchscreen that can rotate to either a landscape or portrait configuration. The Ocean also has a unique “California Mode” feature. When selecting California Mode, the side windows, rear glass, and roof retract for a convertible-like layout.

Like Rivian, Fisker works toward environmental sustainability. The EV startup gave the Ocean its name because of its aim to protect the ocean. Also, the components of the Ocean utilize recycled fishing nets and other recycled materials. Even Pope Francis is impressed by the Ocean and its environmental credentials. Fisker plans to build him an electric Ocean Popemobile. 

If you hate Elon Musk, consider buying a Lucid Air instead of a Tesla

Another good alternative to a Tesla for Musk-hating EV car buyers is the Lucid Air luxury sedan. Like Rivian and Fisker, Lucid earned the ire of Musk. The Lucid Air won the 2022 MotorTrend Car of the Year award, so it’s not surprising that Lucid draws his attention.

The specs of the Air are incredible. It has an estimated driving range of up to 520 miles, which is the highest range for an eclectic car. The Air generates an eye-opening output of up to 1,111 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph time as low as 2.6 seconds. Plus, the Air has an attractive design, and the cabin has many advanced technologies. 

Additional electric car alternatives to a Tesla 

The Rivian R1T and R1S, Fisker Ocean, and Lucid Air are all good alternatives to a Tesla for EV buyers that dislike Elon Musk and his divisive behavior. Also, beyond these startup EV automakers, many of the large automakers have good electric car options as well. Examples include the Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Volkswagen ID.4, BMW i4, and Porsche Taycan.
