Hear the V8-Powered Ford F-150 Raptor Roar on the Road
For years, critics of the Ford F-150 Raptor have been quick to point out the truck’s lack of a V8 engine available. However, that all changes with the upcoming 2022 Raptor. Aside from offering a V8 option, reports claim it could even have a supercharger for extra punch. A new video reported by Motor1 via Ford Authority gives us a glimpse of how the super truck will sound once it hits the road.
How does the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor sound?
This newest Ford F-150 Raptor spy video caught the V8-powered truck in the ideal scenario. This is because the video is filmed on the highway as the truck is cruising along. What immediately stands out is the low V8 rumble that is clearly audible from the video. This marks a stark contrast from the current twin-turbo V6 option available. According to Motor1 other spy, videos have seen the V6-powered version. However, this newest clip shows us how the V8 powered variant sounds.
One of the peculiar things about the video is just how loud the truck sounds despite cruising on the highway. As a result, the prototype could be fitted with a free-flowing exhaust option in the video above. Unfortunately, we don’t see the truck doing any hard accelerations. As a result, there is no audible way to tell whether this is a supercharged V8. However, Motor1 report that this new Ford F-150 Raptor will likely utilize the V8 out of the Mustang Shelby GT500.
How much power will this truck have?
If the rumors are true and the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor receives the GT500’s engine, it will be plenty powerful. In the muscle car, the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 develops 760 hp. Since the powertrain would have to move into a truck, there may be some subtle power output differences. Regardless, this would allow the next-gen Raptor to compete with the 702-hp Ram 1500 TRX. Additionally, the inclusion of the supercharged V8 could make this new truck the fastest brand-new truck available.
As mentioned earlier, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor will likely retain a V6 option like the current-generation model. However, the arrival of the Ford F-150 PowerBoost raises an important question. According to Motor1, the next-gen Raptor could feature the ultra-powerful twin-turbo V6 hybrid. For context, the current Raptor generates 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. The F-150 PowerBoost, on the other hand, generates 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. With the massive increases in torque, expect the V6 hybrid-powered 2022 Raptor to get a significant power bump.
While the V6 Raptor will likely carry over the 10-speed automatic transmission currently available, the V8 could go a different route. This is because the Mustang Shelby GT500 utilizes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
When will it officially arrive?
The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor will arrive sooner than you think. Despite Ford giving the F-150 an all-new generation for the 2021 model year, the Raptor should arrive sometime this year. Expect the truck to go on sale shortly after it is announced. However, we do not know if the V6 and V8 Raptor models will arrive simultaneously. Additionally, the two trucks could go on sale at different moments. Regardless, we won’t have to wait to see this brand-new off-roading truck on the roads.
