A great V8 makes for a fast truck. Sure, modern V8s are getting outgunned by electric trucks and even complicated turbocharged hybrid trucks in the horsepower races. But t it’s hard to beat a rumble from a big Hemi or a Coyote, or to love the stonk from a Chevy 6.2 liter – the biggest block on the block. The Ford Raptor R, which is expected to have a the Shelby Mustang V8 isn’t out yet, but we can’t wait to see where it falls on this list of the fastest V8 trucks.

What trucks don’t make the list of fastest V8 trucks?

The Raptor isn’t on the list because it uses Ford’s 450-horsepower EcoBoost V6. FYI, it will stomp to 60 in about 5.3 seconds. That would put the Raptor near the top of the list. Also, the hybrid Toyota Tundra is out. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning doesn’t make the list either, even though it can get to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds, because it’s all-electric. The V8 rule also takes out the 2023 Rivian R1T and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. If you want more power, you can always upgrade your V8 to a V6.

Ford took the fab V8 from the Mustang GT and dropped it in the F-150. It’s an interesting engine that Ford calls the 5.0 but is really 5,038 ccs. With a 10-speed automatic transmission, it can get to 60 in about  6.3 seconds, depending on who’s testing it. That’s slower than the EcoBoost V6, but it’s still no slouch. The big reason, then, to get the 5.0 and let your hair blow is its sound. It sounds like a Mustang, and nobody will complain about that, even if it’s not one of the fastest V8 trucks.

The Ram 1500: 5.9 seconds to 60

The Ram 1500 with the Hemi V8 with eTorque acquits itself pretty well. This is a big, heavy, five (or six) seat pickup. But equipped with the Rebel package’s shorter gearing, it can get off the line pretty quickly, while the regular 1500 gets there in about 5.9 seconds. The Ram was redesigned in 2019 and added the eTorque mild-hybrid system that adds extra torque, but also saves gas.

2020 Nissan Titan: 5.9 seconds to 60

It was a bit of a surprise that Nissan kept the V8 in the 2022 Nissan Titan. But we’re glad it did. The 400-horsepower V8 in the Titan acquits itself well in this company. Also, it’s the only engine offered. The Titan was updated in 2020 and sets itself apart with its Zero Gravity seats, which make the Titan a comfy place to churn away the miles.

2022 Chevy Silverado 6.2: 5.4 seconds to 60.

The mighty 6.2-liter in the 2022 Chevy Silverado can launch this truck to 60 in about the same time as a Toyota RAV4 Prime, 5.4 seconds according to Chevy. While that doesn’t sound super impressive, the Silverado weighs almost 5,000 pounds.

The Fastest V8 truck is, of course, Ram 1500 TRX: 4.5 seconds to 60

Of course the 2022 Ram TRX is king of the V8 trucks. That’s what happens when you put a Hellcat motor in a truck. The Ram TRX’s engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged beast that makes 702 horsepower. That’s more than two Chevy Camaro LS cars, with a few John Deere tractors thrown in. But, of course, you can carry and tow all of that (at once) with a TRX, too. But, Car and Driver says the Raptor R will be supercharged, too, so will the 2023 Ford Raptor R dethrone the TRX as the fastest V8 truck?
