Since its introduction in 2016, Chevy has invested a substantial sum into making the Bolt a viable EV for the masses. Aside from available federal tax credits, Chevy routinely offers massive incentives for the Bolt. However, the market for hatchbacks in the U.S. is quite small, no matter how cheap they are. In response, Chevy has decided to morph the Bolt into something it can sell with ease, a crossover. Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming EV.

Is the Chevy Bolt EUV a large crossover?

Unfortunately, all the major details surrounding the Chevy Bolt EUV are still under wraps. Thankfully, Car and Driver recently reported a few major details of the upcoming crossover. For starters, the Bolt EUV will be underpinned by GM’s BEV2 electric vehicle platform, says Car and Driver. This platform is a perfect fit since it already underpins the current-gen Bolt EV. This means that the recently announced Ultimum battery platform that underpins the GMC Hummer EV will likely be reserved for larger vehicles.

Although it is hard to tell from just a side-view photo, this platform information reveals that the Chevy Bolt EUV likely won’t be a large crossover. Expect this electric crossover to battle with the likes of the recently released Volkswagen ID.4. However, you’ll have to wait quite a while if you want this newest EV. According to Car and Driver, the Bolt EUV is set to enter production sometime during the summer of 2021. From there is should reach dealerships toward the end of 2021.

The Bolt becomes sharper than ever

Now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, we can move onto the newly released image of the Chevy Bolt EUV’s headlight. Although the image is quite close, it offers us plenty of information. We can see that the headlight gradually turns from amber to white for starters, meaning it is most likely a sequential headlight. Like with the current-gen Bolt, expect there to be a strip of LED running lights. We see a piece of gloss black trim with a gloss black Bolt logo to the headlight’s right. If the current model is anything to go by, this trim will likely cut across the front fenders.

The upcoming Chevy Bolt EUV’s interior is also set to be a massive leap forward. In a teaser image covered by Car and Driver, we can clearly see a larger central screen. Additionally, a subtle piece of chrome outlines the screen, alluding to a more luxurious aesthetic.

However, the most important improvement present in the Chevy Bolt EUV is the inclusion of Cadillac’s Super Cruise driver assistance system. Aside from allowing for partial hands-free driving on select roads, it should mean this new Bolt will get a sophisticated digital instrument cluster to manage it.

What happened to the hatchback?

While the Chevy Bolt EUV is the talk of the town, we can’t forget about the hatchback variant. In a teaser image posted by Chevy, we can clearly see that the hatchback will return with similar exterior elements to the ones shown on the EUV. Expect a similar headlight setup, although it will likely be slightly smaller. According to Car and Driver, the hatchback variant will go into production and on sale alongside the electric crossover.
