The release of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic is just around the corner. Lucky for us, Honda has given us a sneak peek of the sedan’s design with an all-new video. Unfortunately, the Civic Coupe won’t be making a comeback for 2022. While most new car reveals are happening virtually, Honda has decided to unveil its new car on Twitch. According to Car and Driver, the small sedan should go on sale in the U.S. in the spring of 2021. Prices should remain in the low $20,000 range.

Here’s what we know about the 2022 Honda Civic

Info regarding the all-new 2022 Honda Civic has been quite difficult to come by. However, Car and Driver reports that we will get the standard Civic Sedan, the sporty Civic Si, and even a fire-breathing Type R model. The inclusion of a Type R model is interesting, given that the video only shows a sedan body style. Historically, Type R models have largely existed exclusively as hatchbacks. As a result, Honda could unveil the hatchback variant later in 2021.

In terms of powertrains, there haven’t been any rumors of an electrified or plug-in version just yet. As a result, the 2022 Honda Civic will likely keep its lineup of turbocharged and hybrid equipped engines. The video doesn’t show the interior at all, which should also get a complete re-design. If other affordable sedans such as the Hyundai Elantra are anything to go by, the Honda could receive a fully digital instrument cluster.

It may be a Honda but it’s got Acura styling

Although the quickly edited video doesn’t give us a full view of the 2022 Honda Civic, its styling influence is clear. According to Car and Driver, the new Civic closely resembles the 2021 Acura TLX. The current-gen Civic is quite an ugly duckling, so a completely re-designed exterior is highly welcomed. For starters, the headlights look sharp with a brand-new “L” shaped design. The aforementioned Acura TLX employs a similar design element, albeit upside down. Unlike the current-gen Civic, the new front grille design does not appear to extend completely into the headlights, allowing for a clear separation. As a result, the front end should look quite tidy.

Thankfully, the boomerang-style taillights found in the current Honda Civic appear to have disappeared. Instead, we get what appears to be LED taillights with the same “L” shape we saw in the front end. Most notably, the video appears to show what looks like a small rear spoiler that’s actually integrated into the trunk. Although it is a subtle touch, it gives the new Civic a sharp rear end.

The Honda Civic in the video also wears a sizable set of black wheels. Although they appear large, their design is quite sleek, in-keeping with the rest of the sedan’s design. They remind us of the wheels available in the current-gen Civic Si. It’s also worth keeping in mind that Si and Type R models should wear a much more aggressive aesthetic.

Prices should start in the low $20,000 range

Although no pricing information has been released for the 2022 Honda Civic, Car and Driver estimate that it’ll start in the low $20,000 range. The Civic currently starts at $21,050. For context, the base Toyota Corolla currently starts at $1,125 less with a base price of $19,925.

Given the major improvements expected to reach the all-new Civic, the price could potentially see a small increase. This means the Honda’s design, tech, and driving dynamics will have to impress if it is to justify its premium. Regardless, we will have to wait and see until November 17th when the model is unveiled live on Twitch.
