The current-generation Nissan Armada is one of the largest vehicles for sale by the brand alongside the Titan pickup truck. Like the small Kicks crossover, the Armada will receive a major refresh on December 8th. Although details are hard to come by, Nissan launched a teaser video showing off the redesigned front-end. Thankfully the short video provides a good amount of useful information.

The 2021 Nissan Armada gets major aesthetic improvements

Although the current-gen Nissan Armada carries a muscular look with a strong road presence, it isn’t exactly stylish. The screenshot posted above of the short video shows a completely redesigned front end. While the large front-grille remains, it now falls in line with the overall design we’ve seen in Nissan’s other SUVs. It appears the headlights have been slightly sculpted and now feature the corporate boomerang style LED light setup.

Although it is nearly impossible to see, it appears as though the 2021 Nissan Armada’s grille has grown significantly. Two large chrome elements partition the current-gen Armada’s grille. On the other hand, the 2021 model appears to have chrome on the grille outline, allowing for a wider opening. The rest of the front bumper appears to be largely unchanged, although it is difficult to tell.

The rest of the overall design appears largely unchanged. Both the Nissan Armada’s hood and front fenders appear to be a direct carryover. The same goes for the sides of the enormous SUV. Given how much investment has gone into redesigning the front-end, don’t expect any significant rear-end changes. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait very long actually to see it.

The Armada will make its official debut on December 8th

This has been quite a busy week for Nissan. For starters, we learned that the redesigned Kicks crossover would arrive via a live stream on December 8th. Today we learned that the refreshed Armada would debut during the same event. This means the brands’ smallest and largest SUVs will receive redesigned front-ends. Given that the 2021 Nissan Armada will make its official debut toward the end of 2020, expect it to go on sale sometime earlier next year.

There is no indication that the 2021 Nissan Armada will receive major changes in terms of trim levels, pricing, and engine options. Given the subtle refresh the Titan pickup truck received earlier this year, the SUV should receive a similar treatment.

How does the current model stack up?

With the 2021 Nissan Armada just around the corner, it’s worth taking a look at the current generation. According to Consumer Reports, the 2020 Armada ranks toward the bottom of its large SUV list. The Armada scored poorly in the predicted reliability, predicted owner satisfaction, and fuel economy categories. However, it is worth noting that the SUV scored highly in the acceleration, noise, and interior fit and finish qualities. The result is that Armada is likely a great drive with some decent drawbacks.

With the arrival of the refreshed model, Nissan now has a golden opportunity to correct some of these issues and secure the Armada a place at the top of the ratings. We’ll have to tune in on December 8th to find out.
