2022 Ford F-150 with BlueCruise
Ford Motor Company offers both the Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 with its hands-free driving software. This software is called BlueCruise. It features the standards adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and lane centering. In addition, BlueCruise reads signs and adjusts your speed on its own.
On over 130,000 miles of pre-mapped highways, you can take your hands off the steering wheel and BlueCruise will keep driving. Ford’s even demonstrated this technology on roads with worn-down center lines. That said, you must remain in the driver’s seat with your eyes on the road.
According to KBB, Ford offers BlueCruise as an option on the F-150 Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. The feature is part of the $995 Co-Pilot 360 package. Owners must also pay a $600 3-year subscription fee. BlueCruise comes standard on the current F-150 Limited.
The 2022 F-150 Lariat starts at $46,640. So with the additional charges, you should be able to get into a Ford F-150 with hands-free driving capabilities for under $50K.
General Motors’ Super Cruise has more features than Ford’s BlueCruise

General Motors has been steadily improving its version of hands-free driving–Super Cruise–since 2017. And it shows.
The GM system also allows you to take your hands off the wheel on pre-mapped highways. According to Forbes, the current (second) generation of GM’s Super Cruise is more advanced than Ford’s current BlueCruise in several ways.
Firstly, the GM system uses map data to look a couple of miles ahead and slow down for sharp turns. Secondly, Super Cruise can change lanes and pass slower cars.
In addition, the GM system lights up the steering wheel green when the system is active, red when the driver must take the wheel; Ford drivers must squint at an indicator in the instrument cluster. Finally, GM has already mapped out over 200,000 miles of roads where Super Cruise will work, that’s 70,000 more miles than Ford’s BlueCruise.
Truck owners will be excited that this second generation of Super Cruise even works while towing. That said, GM’s extra bells and whistles come at a steep price.
Only top-trim 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and 2022 GMC Sierra pickup trucks offer Super Cruise
General Motors’ Super Cruise may offer more functions than its Ford BlueCruise counterpart, but it’s also more expensive.
Firstly, Super Cruise will only be an option on General Motors’ top-trim pickups. This driver aid software is available on the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD High Country (which starts at $54,700) and on the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali (starting at $56,800).
Next, before you can purchase Super Cruise, you will need to upgrade your GM truck’s engine. You can choose from the Duramax I6 diesel ($1,715) or the 6.2-liter gasoline V8 ($2,565).
After all of that, you can purchase the Super Cruise option for your truck. Super Cruise itself is a $2,500 feature. All-told, a diesel Silverado with Super Cruise will cost at least $58,915 while a GMC or V8 will cost more.
Your other option is to buy the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate edition (starting at $78,700). This trim level includes the engine upgrade and Super Cruise as a standard feature.
On top of everything else, you will also have to fork over more money monthly. Through 2021, GM charged an additional subscription fee ($25 monthly) for Super Cruise. We will find out whether this number changes in the future.
