Today Lamborghini unveils its first all-electric vehicle, the Lanzador, slated for a 2028 release date. We’re unsure if you should call it an SUV, a coupe, or a sedan. But whatever label you put on it, this is one wicked Lambo. And that’s the thing, though it’s an EV, it looks like a Lamborghini through and through. 

It sits high, with lots of ground clearance, and the general body proportions, except for the chopped roof, are classic SUV three-block design. The rocker paint breakup visually slims down the body, taking some of the SUV heft out of the design. But being a two-door, and with that chopped-like fastback top, it signals to be a coupe. 

Does the Lamborghini Lanzador look like the Urus?

In most ways, the design apes the Urus, with some notable exceptions. It’s a bit more refined as it ties the rear fender bulges to the doors and eliminates the vent in the front fenders that breaks up the design. The wheel openings are now handled more cleanly, yet they retain the rear-bias design like the Urus. And the concept pulls the wheels and tires farther out, though that may change in the production version. 

The fascia is very close to the Urus design with the giant air ducts and trapezoidal lower grille opening. However, the main grille has been minimized, partly because it is not needed to cool down a V12. Sharp breaks in the surfaces are a Lamborghini hallmark, with the Urus undercut that runs through its flanks not making an appearance on the Lanzador.

Does the cabin match the Lanzador’s exterior?

We like the body breakup in the rear, with the taillights being somewhat like those of the Estoque. It also features a full glass roof. The great proportions are amplified by those 23-inch wheels and very short overhangs.

Inside, it’s all spacey, starting with the dash. It pulls out in the center toward the rear, almost floating. It’s all very slim and sheer, without the screens being upright like giant flags, as on EVs. For most EVs, the screens are big elements meant to be seen, while those on the Lanzador integrate into the dash.

What’s the Lanzador EV drivetrain like?

But screens are predominant on the back of the front seats for rear passengers. And the rear bucket seats do fold down for extra cargo space. Interestingly, the non-adjustable rear headrests come from the roof. Sustainable materials are used throughout.

We don’t know everything about the drivetrain, but it will feature an electric motor both front and rear. Lamborghini says it will have over one megawatt of power. that translates to about 1,340 hp. Yeah, that’s not a typo: 1,340 hp. Range and charging particulars haven’t been released. The Lanzador will feature an air suspension with both front and rear steering.

Do we really have to wait until 2028?

In all, Lambo chose to go more SUV-like than Huracan-ish. It sees value in a more practical layout for its first stab into electrification. Don’t forget that the Revuelto is hybrid-powered. 

As for the starting date, 2028 is a long way away. It’s unclear if Lamborghini will build versions of the Lanzador for clients loyal to the marque before it gets to production or if everyone will have to wait until 2028. But whatever Lamborghini decides, this is one slick SUV EV.
