Since its introduction in 2004, the Chevrolet Colorado has been a popular mid-size truck. It was created to replace the aging Chevy S-10 pickup truck and since 2015, it has been in its second generation. What’s new for the 2023 Chevy Colorado?

The biggest news for the 2023 Colorado pickup truck is that it should be entering its third generation. There will likely be changes made to available trim levels, styling, and overall capability. In terms of trims, the Chevy Colorado mid-size truck is currently offered as the WT, LT, Z71, and ZR2 trims. According to GM Authority, that could change, with the Z71 trim being eliminated for a luxury-focused truck with an LTZ or High Country package. 

Multiple cab variations have been seen in spy shots. It is unclear which cabs will be offered with this mid-size truck, but there will likely be multiple variations. Crew cabs have been in high demand recently, so surely Chevy will be offering a Colorado with a crew cab.

Is the 2023 Chevy Colorado a good truck?

The current Chevy Colorado may not be the most popular on the market, but it is decent enough. And we expect the same to continue for 2023. The Colorado does have some tough competition in form of other mid-size trucks. Rivals include trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and Ford Ranger, all of which have found great popularity. 

The 2022 Chevy Colorado has a starting MSRP of $25,200, but higher trims can go well above that. If for 2023, Chevy does release a High Country Colorado, it could see pricing close to that of a Chevy Silverado 1500. This may make some buyers question which truck they should go for. 

What engine will the 2023 Colorado have?

We would not be surprised if the engine options were reduced for the 2023 Colorado, resulting in a single engine option. This engine could be the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that is found in the Chevy Silverado 1500. In that role, the powertrain makes 310 horsepower and 348 pound-foot of torque. To some, this may be a slight disappointment, as tradition shows that mid-size trucks greatly benefit from V6 powertrains. But, that would also mean a cut in efficiency.
