Can you order the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting?
Yes, you can currently order the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning. The ordering books just opened up with a few new perks. For example, you don’t have to go through a reservation process. You can enter your make and model on the Ford site.
Initially, Ford stopped taking orders in 2021 once reservations hit 200,000 units. So, this is your first chance to put in an order in two years. The ordering books could stay open until July 5.
Ford was planning to crank out roughly 80,000 models in June. But due to overwhelming demand for the electric Ford truck, production is ramping up. Now Ford is expecting to build 150,000 models by the fall of 2023.
There was a slight production delay related to battery fires in February. Production shut down for a few weeks until engineers discovered the case of the fire.
The affected models were corrected at the factory before being sent to customers. This is part of Ford’s new quality initiative to prevent expensive recalls.
How long is the wait for the 2023 F-150 Lightning?
The wait for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is probably about a year long. On a positive note, that’s much faster than the three-year waiting times that were predicted back in 2021. Also, production and deliveries are currently on track.
But if you want to skip the line, it’s possible to find an F-150 Lightning model at your local dealership. Perhaps a used model will be available too. Those models may be subject to pricing above MSRP due to limited inventory.
Ford increased prices for the F-150 Lightning three times since the initial launch. However, prices were just reduced a little. The F-150 Lightning XLT Extended-Range model is now $2,100 cheaper.
It starts at $78,784 before the $1,895 destination fee. This move allows the XLT Extended-Range model to be eligible for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits. It falls under the Inflation Reduction Act because the starting MSRP is under $80,000.
The Lightning Pro model or the base trim starts at $59,974. Upgrading to the F-150 Lightning Platinum takes the MSRP up to 98,074. The Pro is still sold out for 2023.
How much range does the 2023 Lightning have?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Standard-Range model has an EPA-estimated 230 miles of range per charge. It uses a 98.0-kWh battery pack. Upgrade to the Extended-Range model for an EPA-estimated 320 miles of range with the 131.0-kWh battery pack.
You get 462 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque with the standard battery. The extended-range battery cranks out 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. The Lightning can tow between 7,700 to 10,000 lbs and can carry a payload of up to 2,235 lbs.
Use a DC fast charger to replenish about 15 to 80 percent in about 36 minutes. A level 2 charger can fully recharge the battery in nearly eight hours. It adds around 30 miles of charge per hour.
