The Honda CR-V is among the top-selling compact SUVs in America and a favorite among consumers valuing fuel efficiency and cargo space. But surprisingly, the CR-V is the most popular car in only one state: New Jersey. Here’s a look at Honda CR-V sales and the other best-selling cars in the United States.

America’s most popular cars

Throughout 2022, Edmunds collected data on the most popular vehicles by state. To determine the most accurate results, the site included only new automobile registrations to individual, not rental companies or government entities.

The Toyota Camry is the only passenger car that made it onto the list of the 10 most-sold vehicles of 2022. However, the Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in Florida. The pickups in the top 10 are the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-Series, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500/2500/3500, and Toyota Tacoma. And the crossover SUVs are the Toyota RAV4, Tesla Model Y, and Honda CR-V.

The Tesla Model Y is the only electric vehicle on the list and is among the top-selling vehicles in five states. Toyota sold the most automobiles in 2022, and the Chevrolet Silverado sold the most units in the United States last year.

The Garden State loves the Honda CR-V

After almost 30 years in production, the Honda CR-V remains a consumer favorite, especially in New Jersey. According to Edmunds, there were more new registrations for the popular Honda crossover than any other vehicle in the Garden State.

At the beginning of 2022, Honda announced its popular Civic as the best-selling retail passenger car in the U.S. for the sixth year in a row. Despite the model’s immense popularity, it did not earn recognition as the most popular vehicle in any state. And aside from the CR-V, no other Honda model appears in Edmunds’ roundup as a best-seller in any other place.

Historically, the CR-V saw its highest sales in 2019, when Honda sold 384,168 units of the compact SUV. In 2005, the automaker sold 150,219 units; by 2012, that amount doubled to 311,069. Last year, 238,155 units were sold, and this year to date, Americans have purchased 99,017 CR-Vs.

Is the 2023 Honda CR-V a good car?

According to Edmunds, the runnerups in New Jersey are the Toyota RAV4, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Tesla Model Y, and Mazda CX-5.

But the CR-V has been a favorite among New Jerseyites for many years. It provides plenty of room for cargo and passengers, great value, and excellent fuel efficiency. The smooth ride, available all-wheel drive, and attractive interior also make this SUV an ideal choice for families taking trips to the Jersey Shore.

Priced from $31,110 to $38,600, the 2023 Honda CR-V received an appealing makeover for its sixth generation. Improvements include sportier exterior styling, a roomier interior with upgraded features and design, and a return to the standard 190-hp turbo-four engine and continuously variable transmission.

Not only is the Honda CR-V a favorite in New Jersey, but it was also named one of Car and Driver’s 10 Best Trucks and SUVs for 2023.
