If you’re shopping for a used truck, then the 2017 Honda Ridgeline is an excellent choice if you want a practical, comfortable, and spacious way to transport a lot of stuff every day. However, another practical, comfortable and spacious way to haul a lot of cargo routinely is to buy a 2007 Honda Element. But which of these two spacious, practical, and comfortable vehicles can fit more stuff in it?

The sky is the limit with the Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline made its second debut for the 2017 model year and for its redesign, the automaker kept all of the good features and did away with the rest that didn’t work. That means that Honda kept the cool dual-action tailgate, the in-bed truck storage, and the smooth and fuel-efficient V6 engine, and then completely change the rest of it. And it works well because now the Ridgeline not only looks better, but it also rides smoother and is more capable than before.

As far as cargo solutions, the Ridgeline not only has a truck bed, but it even has a small in-bed storage compartment that measures 7.3 cubic feet, which is large enough for a few big storage bins. Additionally, the truck bed itself has 33.9 cubic feet of storage, however, if you would rather pile all of your stuff up, then the sky is literally the limit, provided you don’t mind your stuff falling over when you take a turn. There’s also more room in the rear of the cabin as the rear seat bottom can also be folded up to reveal more room for taller items like plants or anything else you fit back there.

The Honda Element is a mini box truck

If you would rather have enclosed storage, then the Honda Element is like a mini box truck. And by “mini,” we don’t necessarily mean small as the SUV’s boxy shape lends itself to provided ample head and legroom for rear-seat passengers, and a ton of cargo room when you take out the rear seats. However, you don’t really need to take them out as the rear seats can actually fold up and attach to the sides of the cabin and create cargo van-like room.

With the rear seat folded down, the Element has 25.1 cubic-feet of space, which is plenty of room for a couple of large suitcases or storage bins. But if you fold the seats up, then you’ll uncover a whopping 74.6 cubic feet of space, which is over twice the amount that the Ridgeline’s truck bed area holds.

Which one can fit more stuff in it?

Telling you about the storage size of each vehicle is one thing, but showing you is another. Fortunately, the guys at The Straight Pipes did the work for us by demonstrating the storage capacity of each of these vehicles. They used 28 large storage bins to test out the maximum cargo capacity of each and, technically, the Element won since they were able to fit 20 storage bins efficiently in it.

However, when they loaded up the Ridgeline, they technically cheated by stacking up the majority of the bins in the truck bed and utilized its open-air characteristic. By doing so, they were able to fit all 28 bins, but of course, most of them fell over when driving. So, technically speaking, the Honda Element has more room and is more practical for the daily haul.
