The tiny SUV battle rages on as the Honda HR-V enters the arena against the Toyota Corolla Cross. Both options are affordable, but only one can win. The 2023 Honda HR-V may have a leg up on the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross by providing more value.

According to Edmunds, when it comes to value, the 2023 Honda HR-V is better than the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross. But there’s more to consider than that, and the Corolla Cross has a few unique advantages, such as a slightly faster acceleration. 

Anyways, they compared the two highest trim levels, and the HR-V has more bells and whistles to enjoy. The interior layout has a more complete feeling, and it’s more attractive. The metal detailing on the vents and switches and contrast stitching create a premium environment. 

Plus, the HR-V is filled with tech that’s easy to use. It has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while your phone has to be connected with a wire in the Corolla Cross. 

The Corolla Cross features upscale materials and a vibrant 9-inch touchscreen, but it’s a little plain. But on a positive note, the front seats are more comfortable than the HR-V’s. 

However, the HR-V has more space in the rear for passengers, and the backrest sits at a more comfortable incline. Also, the liftover height is lower. 

Is the HR-V or Corolla Cross more practical? 

The 2023 Honda HR-V starts at $23,650, and the top-spec EX-L trim increases the price to $27,450. You can get started with the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross for about $22,445, while the XLE costs $26,575. 

With the HR-V, you get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 10.2 seconds, which is sluggish. 

The Toyota Corolla Cross has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.6 seconds, which is still sluggish. 

The Honda HR-V gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and up to 32 mpg on the highway. The Toyota Corolla Cross receives an EPA-estimated 31 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. Both SUVs can be equipped with AWD. 

You can access up to 24.0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats of the HR-V with up to 55 cubes total. The Corolla Cross provides 26.5 cubic feet behind the backseat with up to 66.8 cubes. 

Does the HR-V or Corolla Cross have better features?

As we break the trim levels down, the 2023 Honda CR-V does offer a bit more than the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross. Both options have an available wireless charging pad, but the HR-V offers ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and remote start. 

However, the faux leather in the Corolla Cross is comfortable. Plus, it has a power liftgate and a nine-speaker JBL audio system. 

Both SUVs have standard automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. 

While the Honda HR-V has a more attractive interior, more tach, and a more comfortable backseat, the Toyota Corolla Cross is slightly faster, more comfortable in the first, and offers more cargo space.
