This Honda Hybrid Truck Could Be a Winner
The Honda Ridgeline is a pickup truck that has been around for some time. And the current generation has been offered since 2017. It is expected that for 2024, a new Ridgeline could be on the way. This model would mark a new generation of Honda’s mid-size truck. And rumors have been circulating that the Ridgeline might become a hybrid truck.
Does the Honda Ridgeline have a hybrid?
As it currently stands, the Honda Ridgeline is not a hybrid truck. But, the Ridgeline hybrid could soon be on its way. The Honda brand has a range of hybrid tech that it installs in its vehicles. And it would make sense that a hybrid Honda Ridgeline would be created.
For now, each 2023 Ridgeline comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 280 horsepower. Additionally, this mid-size truck does come standard with all-wheel drive. Which does make it ideal for handling a variety of climates and conditions.
Will Honda make a hybrid Ridgeline?
There is potentially some bad news about the creation of the Honda Ridgeline hybrid. The 2023 Honda Pilot is all-new for this year. And it happens to be the SUV that Honda’s mid-size truck is based on. Surprisingly, Honda chose not to give the new Pilot a hybrid powertrain. Much like the Ridgeline, according to Car and Driver, it still boasts a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
Because Honda’s truck shares so much of its DNA with the Pilot, it is hard to see it getting different powertrain options. But maybe with the success of the Ford Maverick Hybrid, Honda will attempt to capitalize on the popularity of hybrid trucks.
Is Honda discontinuing the Ridgeline?
A new variant of the Ridgeline is expected in the near future. So it is unlikely that Honda will discontinue this pickup. Despite this, Honda’s truck has never sold all that well. It regularly falls behind rivals like the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma.
The Honda Ridgeline is more expensive than most mid-size trucks. At the same time, it does not offer the same level of capability. It’s not great off-road, and it can’t tow as much as other trucks. Because of that, most pickup shoppers probably skip over this model. But maybe, Honda’s truck is one worth revisiting. Even if you cannot get a hybrid Ridgeline.
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline should be on your radar
From offering an in-bed audio system to coming with a standard V6, the 2023 Ridgeline does bring a lot to the table. And maybe it’s a pickup that more folks should consider. After all, critics have been praising it for years.
It would be nice to see this mid-size truck offer more affordable pricing. But, even its base trim does come well-equipped. Still, with the Ridgeline Black Edition costing nearly $50,000, that is a little hard to stomach. For that kind of money, you could get something like a Tacoma TRD Pro or a Ford Ranger Lariat.
Whether or not Honda makes a hybrid Ridgeline, the 2024 model should mark a new generation. And hopefully, that will make it more competitive in its segment.
