Honda appears to be the automaker to beat in 2020. When it comes to sales in 2020 so far, Honda’s numbers are strong. They are selling rings around the competition according to year-to-date sales reports.

Dominating 2020 Sales

According to a 2020 U.S. auto sales analysis compiled by GoodCarBadCar.net, when it comes to best-selling automotive brands in February 2020, Honda is at the top of the list. They are selling more than twice the number of units of the second best-seller on the list, Hyundai. In February, Honda sold 107,742 units, which is more than double the 53,013 units sold by the closest competitor Hyundai.

The report showed the data from February 2019, which had Honda selling 102,926 units, illustrating a 4.68 percent increase in sales from last year. Hyundai sold the second-most vehicles in the U.S. in February 2019 but sold less than half what Honda did with 45,612 units.  

With 200,137 units sold so far in 2020, Honda has set a really high bar for the rest of the automotive field. 

Top-selling Honda models

According to USA Today, while the Ford F-Series remain the best-selling vehicles in the U.S., there are places in America where certain Honda vehicles are more popular. 

Honda’s most popular vehicle, the HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV that’s the best-selling vehicle of any type in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Virginia. 

While it’s exactly that – a subcompact – it offers a lot of passenger space with a folding rear seat that serves up more when you need it. It doesn’t have an overly athletic powertrain, granted and it’s a tricky ride on uneven stretches. But it gets great gas mileage, and if you navigate a lot of traffic, the HR-V makes it easy. The Honda HR-V may not be showy or athletic, but it’s solid, versatile transportation that offers practicality many will appreciate.

The Honda Civic is another winner for the automaker. When you mention California in a discussion about vehicles, it’s easy to think of Tesla, right? But the Honda Civic was actually the top-selling vehicle in California in 2019.

The Honda Civic has a great reputation as a compact car, and it lives up to it. The Civic is fun to drive, roomy on the inside, and there are a lot of configurations to choose from. 

You can get the Civic as a coupe, hatchback, or sedan. Each is not only affordable but efficient with enough safety features and tech to make the average driver happy. Either the standard engine or the turbocharged version gives you solid power and great gas mileage. You can pair that with a solid six-speed manual transmission or the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). 

Different from the rest of the country, California is more about passenger cars than the SUVs and trucks favored elsewhere. In 2019, the top cars sold were the Honda Civic, Tesla Model 3, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and RAV4.

The 2020 Honda Accord continues the tradition of being one of the best family sedans on the market. It offers three powertrain options, one of which is a hybrid, for a nice balance of power and efficiency. The gas engines are both four-cylinder engines that you can combine with either a 10-speed automatic transmission or an effective manual. The Accord’s handling is excellent and the ride is well-balanced for a great ride.

The 2020 Honda Accord got some new standard features and is one of the best-equipped choices in the class.
