This Honda Might Be the Longest Lasting Midsize Truck
OK, I know Honda is not the most popular truck manufacturer out there. But, the Ridgeline is a legitimate pickup. It might actually be the longest-lasting midsize truck out there as well. And that means the Honda Ridgeline is worthy of at least some praise. Even if it is at the bottom of the list in terms of sales for the most part.
What is the longest-lasting midsize truck?
If you want the longest-lasting midsize truck, it might be the Honda Ridgeline. For some time, this pickup has been the brand’s attempt at satisfying truck owners. But unfortunately, the Ridgeline consistently comes in last place.
According to MotorTrend, more Ridgeline trucks hit the 200,000-mile mark when compared to other pickups in this segment. And that might be surprising to folks who prefer models like the Toyota Tacoma or Chevy Colorado.
The Honda Ridgeline is great on paper
On paper, it does seem like the Ridgeline should be a winner. It comes with a standard V6 engine and AWD. Plus, it shares its platform with the popular Honda Pilot, giving it a fairly comfortable ride. If someone wants a midsize truck that is comfortable and fuel-efficient, it seems like the Ridgeline would be the top pick.
Because Honda’s truck is unibody, it does lose out on some of the capabilities that other vehicles in this segment have. And that might be why it typically comes in last place among consumers. Despite earning praise year after year from automotive journalists, that has not translated into a popular truck.
Will Honda update the Ridgeline?
The current Ridgeline has been around for a bit, so it might be time for Honda to give it an update. After all, the brand did just bring the Pilot SUV into a new generation. It makes sense that Honda would give its pickup truck a legitimate update.
Now, it is hard to say what a third-gen Honda Ridgeline would look like. It will likely be more in line with the design language that we’ve seen in things like the Honda Civic. It could also mean the introduction of a TrailSport trim.
For folks who do off-road their Honda Ridgeline, they probably make modifications themselves. But a TrailSport trim would mean that you could get some of that from the factory. In the video below, you can see that the new Honda Pilot TrailSport is actually capable. And maybe that kind of treatment could help make the Ridgeline more popular.
At the end of the day though, it just seems like consumers don’t appreciate what the Ridgeline is selling. Even if it might be one of the longer-lasting pickups on the market today. Personally, now that the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz are out, I think an updated Ridgeline could bring more attention.
Those two trucks are both unibody, as is the Ridgeline. But, the Ridgeline can tow up to 5,000 lbs as standard fare. It can also haul almost 1,600 lbs, so it is capable of doing some pickup stuff.
