We’ve got a battle of the minivans today. The Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna seem to be the most rockin’ vans for families, but which option is best? Each van has its pros and cons, so let’s see which option is the best for you. 

Toyota Sienna VS Honda Odyssey 

You can get started in the 2020 Honda Odyssey for about $30k. The 2020 Toyota Sienna has a slightly higher starting price that hovers around $31k. Along with being cheaper, the Honda Odyssey also has a slightly better fuel economy with the ability to get up to 28 mpg on the highway. In comparison, the Toyota Sienna only gets up to 26 mpg. 

But these differences are almost too close to make a difference! So we will look at performance. The Toyota Sienna has an all-wheel-drive, while the Honda Odyssey does not. So, for snow, mud, or other slippery conditions, the Sienna is a better choice.

Both vans have a 3.5-liter V6 engine. However, the Honda Odyssey has 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque while the Toyota Sienna has 296 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The Honda Odyssey can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, and the Sienna takes 7.7 seconds to reach 60 mph. 

Along with being a little faster, the Honda Odyssey is also noted for having a smoother ride with a better turning radius. Also, both vans can tow up to 3,500 lb, making them capable options. 

Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey standard safety features 

Whatever you put your family in needs to be safe, and the Honda Odyssey is the safer minivan. It scored higher in standard safety tests from the NHTSA and the IIHS. Also, the Honda Odyssey is an IIHS top safety pick while the Toyota Sienna is not. 

The Toyota Sienna scored lower in areas such as the front passenger overlap test, crashes at 40 mph, and only scored four stars during the rollover test. But the Toyota Sienna comes with more standard safety features. 

Even the base model of the Toyota Sienna comes with pre-collision braking, steering assistance, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. You have to upgrade to the Honda Odyssey EX trim for similar safety features. 

Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna features 

The Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna are very close in space. The Toyota Sienna offers 163.6 cubic feet of cargo space while the Honda Odyssey tops out at 164.4. However, the Honda Odyssey is noted for having more passenger space. 

The Toyota Sienna has more space behind the third row, and the power sliding seats make it easier for climbing in and out of. The center seat in the second row can be stored in the floorboard, while the Honda Odyssey’s seat has to be stored in your home. 

The Honda Odyssey has a more upscale feeling cabin with an 8” infotainment center compared to a 7” one in the Sienna. The Toyota Sienna has Auto Access sliding seats to help passengers, while you can pay more for an intercom system and mini vacuum in the Odyssey. 

While the Toyota Sienna seems like it’s a little more capable and comes with more standard features, the Honda Odyssey is noted for having a nicer interior and being more comfortable driving. Choosing between these vans will come down to if you want all-wheel-drive and more flexible seating options that come with the Toyota Sienna or not.
