If you’re going to be spending upwards of $30,000 on your next pickup, you probably want it to last a relatively long time. Fortunately, according to iSeeCars, several pickups can last for 200,000 miles or more, the Honda Ridgeline and the Toyota Tundra included. But does the Honda Ridgeline have what it takes to outlast the Toyota Tundra? After all, the Toyota Tundra is known for lasting a very long time. 

How many miles will a pickup truck last?

After analyzing more than 11.8 million cars sold last year, iSeeCars determined that 1.0% of all vehicles sold in 2020 successfully reached 200,000-miles. But when it came to pickups specifically? iSeeCars reports that 1.9% of pickups sold reached the 200,000-mile mark. All in all, that’s pretty impressive. 

iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer explained, “On average, pickup trucks are almost twice as likely to reach 200,000 miles with a 1.9 percent average for the segment, which is nearly double the average for all vehicles.” 

Brauer added, “Pickup trucks are commonly used as work vehicles and are likely to accrue more miles than a typical passenger car while often benefitting from more consistent preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.”

According to iSeeCars, the longest-lasting pickups included the Toyota Tundra and the Honda Ridgeline. But of the two, which does iSeeCars say lasts longer?

How many miles can you get out of a Toyota Tundra?

There’s no beating around the bush here. The Toyota Tundra can last a seriously long time. In fact, iSeeCars reports that 3.7% of Tundra models sold in 2020 reached 200,000 miles. Consider that only 1.9% of all pickups were able to do the same thing, and that percentage is nothing short of impressive.  

The Tundra is reliable too. More often than not, Consumer Reports has given the Toyota Tundra either a four or five out of five reliability rating. J.D. Power gave this year’s Tundra a similarly high quality and reliability rating. Further, according to RepairPal, major repairs are infrequent for the Toyota Tundra.

Can the Honda Ridgeline outlast the Toyota Tundra?

Potentially. While 3.7% of Toyota Tundra models reached 200,000-miles, only 3.4% of Honda Ridgeline models sold in 2020 were able to do the same. That being said, the difference in percentages is so small that’s no reason to avoid the Honda Ridgeline. After all, the Toyota Tundra and the Honda Ridgeline are very different trucks.

While the Toyota Tundra comes powered by a 5.7-liter V8 and is able to tow up to 10,200-pounds, the Honda Ridgeline comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and can only tow up to 5,000-pounds when properly equipped. There’s no denying that’s a massive difference in towing power. 

Not to mention, the Toyota Tundra has been around for a seriously long time and is well-known for being a long-lasting pickup truck. In fact, according to Toyota, one Tundra model was even able to reach one million miles. Toyota added that the owner of the million-miles Tundra was so satisfied with the pickup that even after it surpassed one million miles, he continued driving it.

Reaching 200,000 miles is no easy feat

While the over 3.0% Tundra and Honda Ridgeline models sold in 2020 reached 200,000 miles, that doesn’t mean you should expect your next truck to do the same. Even if you do wind up buying a new Toyota Tundra or Honda Ridgeline. In fact, reaching 200,000 miles is no easy feat. 

According to Consumer Reports, if you want your truck to last, you’re going to need to keep up on maintaining it. So those pesky oil changes and spark plugs that need replacing? It’s better not to overlook them.
