The Honda Ridgeline has never been the most popular truck, but it has been a staple in Honda’s lineup for some time. Although it comes standard with a V6 engine and all-wheel drive, it doesn’t seem like a lot of folks are interested in buying it. But, is this a mid-size truck that people should stop overlooking?

Is Honda still making the Ridgeline?

In 2022, Honda still has a pickup truck in its catalog known as the Ridgeline. This mid-size truck rides on a unibody platform. It also comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 280 horsepower. And really, that should be ample enough power for most uses. 

Better yet, the 2022 Ridgeline boasts standard AWD. And that is something that other manufacturers will make you pay extra for. Also notable are the number of features that this pickup comes with. From an in-bed trunk to leather-trimmed interior, you can get a vehicle that is both functional and comfortable. 

Is the 2022 Honda Ridgeline a good truck?

While publications like Consumer Reports do praise the Ridgeline, that praise has never really translated to the buying public. The 2022 Ridgeline truck offers a comfortable ride that feels more like a car than a truck. But that is not necessarily what truck buyers are looking for. 

Another struggle with the Honda Ridgeline might be its cost. This vehicle has a starting MSRP of $38,140. And while Honda’s pickup may come pretty well equipped in its base form, that is still a lot of money. The top trim of the Ridgeline, the Black Edition costs $45,570. 

Should you buy Honda’s truck?

If you are in search of a mid-size truck, but do not want to sacrifice on comfort, the Honda Ridgeline might be the right pick for you. It may not be as capable as some of its rivals, but it is decent enough. When properly equipped, this truck can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The Ridgeline can also handle a payload of nearly 1,600 lbs. And for most uses, you should be able to haul what you need. That number is close to the Chevy Colorado, but it is less than the Ford Ranger. 

What does the 2022 Ridgeline compete with?

The mid-size truck segment is a crowded one, so the Ridgeline is not without its rivals. Nissan has the 2022 Frontier and GMC has the 2022 Canyon. In terms of comfort and overall interior quality, a well-spec’d Ridgeline excels. But because it does not offer the traditional truck experience, sales are lacking. 

Perhaps one of the Honda Ridgeline’s most unique features is its available in-bed audio system. With this feature, your truck’s bed becomes one giant speaker. And that is a pretty nifty party trick to have. Just don’t expect Honda’s truck to handle any major off-roading or some of the other things that better-selling pickups are ready to do.
