There’s no avoiding it, the car revolution is being electrified. It seems like everywhere we turn, there’s a new electric sedan here or new electric SUV there. Even pickup trucks are being electrified. The good news is that with all this electric commotion, you’re bound to find an electric vehicle that you like. With the help of Consumer Reports, we have gathered some of the trendiest EVs to get excited about. 

Polestar 2

Availability: July 2020

Starting Price: $63,000

Polestar is an electric car brand owned by Volvo Car Group and its parent company Geely. The Polestar 2 is the company’s all-electric sedan which is pretty much designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3. With the Polestar 2, you can say “goodbye” to normal driving experiences and hello to a more personalized one. This vehicle can recognize you through your phone and can even adjust your seat digitally. It has a sexy exterior and its interior vegan fabric really takes it to the next level. It can go up to 275 miles on a single charge and get you to 62 mph in under 5 seconds. The Polestar 2 is expected to hit the U.S. streets this summer.

Tesla Model Y

Availability: Summer 2020

Starting Price: $48,000 

We can’t have the hottest EV list without mentioning Tesla who consistently surprises car critics and investors. With the Model Y, Tesla will be breaking into the compact crossover game. Founder and CEO Elon Musk says that the crossover has a 300-mile range. The first available trims are the Long Range and Performace versions, the Standard Range version won’t be available until 2021. 

Ford Mustang Mach-E 

Availability: December 2020

Starting Price: $43,895

The Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s response to the Tesla Model Y. Ford’s evolution of its prized Mustang to an electric crossover SUV further demonstrates how major the EV world is getting.  It’s got an estimated electric driving range of 210 miles with other range options available depending on the version you pick plus optional AWD. Some might call the Mustang-E a sacrilege, but this electric SUV offers more practicality than the coupe version and is likely to attract a whole new group of customers.

Rivian R1T & R1S

Availability: Late 2020

Starting Price: $69,000

Rivian garnered attention as an EV startup with big-time investors including Amazon and Ford. The R1T is an electric pickup with a 750-horsepower, 400-mile range, and can tow 11,000 pounds. Rivian claims that the R1T can go from 0 to 60mph in 3 seconds. You can also opt for the R1S which is the three-row SUV version of the pickup.  

Porsche Taycan

Available Now

Starting Price: $103,800

The 2020 Taycan has gotten car enthusiasts worldwide excited about it being a powerful supercar that just so happens to be Porsche’s first all-electric car. Its recent wins at the World Car Awards further cemented the carmaker’s bragging rights. The Taycan is the first available EV on the market that’s powered by an 800-volt battery pack and is Porsche’s answer to Tesla’s Model S.
