With the success of the 2022 Maverick, it’s no surprise that Ford brought back this compact pickup for 2023. The 2023 Maverick still comes with a starting price of around $20,000, and it offers a standard hybrid engine. If you want something faster though, you can opt for the available 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 horsepower and optional all-wheel drive.
Unfortunately, the AWD system is still reserved for the larger engine. So if you want a hybrid pickup truck, you’ll have to stick with FWD with the 2023 Maverick. But hopefully, at a future date, Ford will be able to offer an AWD system with the hybrid powerplant. According to Ford Authority, there are rumors that there could be a plug-in hybrid Maverick in the works. And that might come with AWD.
What’s new for the Ford Maverick?
In terms of what’s new for the 2023 Maverick, there have been some legitimate changes. The biggest update is the introduction of the Ford Maverick Tremor. If you thought the FX4 Off-Road package was impressive, the Tremor takes things to the next level.
Not only does it add a one-inch lift from the Factor, but it also has an updated transmission cooler. This allows the 2023 Maverick to handle more rugged conditions. Also notable is an all-new AWD system. With the Tremor, you will get a twin-clutch rear differential, which means the diff can open or lock depending on where you are driving.
Should you buy Ford’s small truck?
If you are interested in a compact pickup, the 2023 Ford Maverick brings a lot to the table. Instead of the unique styling of the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Maverick looks like a traditional truck. And that might be ideal to some. Plus, you can get the Maverick with a hybrid engine, which is something that is not available to the Santa Cruz.
Another perk of the 2023 Maverick is that it still has a relatively affordable price tag. This has allowed more folks to purchase a pickup truck in comparison to other models in this segment. It does look like Ford has already closed orders for the new Maverick. Which certainly happened sooner than expected.
But, that is just a reflection of how great this compact pickup truly is. Even for those who might need to do truck stuff with their vehicle. There is a chance that the Blue Oval could reopen orders for the Maverick. But only if the brand feels it can build enough models to satisfy customer demand. Which, at the moment, is definitely quite high.
