How are the Mil-Spec Ford F-150 and Raptor Different?
There is a new off-roading truck entering the game, called the Mil-Spec Ford F-150. It’s different from the Ford Raptor and could rival the Ram 1500 TRX. But like the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, the Mil-Spec Ford F-150 will come with a high price.
What is the Mil-Spec Ford F-150?
Mil-Spec Automotive builds high-end extra tough custom trucks and SUVs. Mil-Spec is mostly known for building high-performance Hummer models such as the Hummer H1 Alpha.
They upgraded the powertrain, added Kevlar to the paint for more scratch resistance, and improved the sound, vibration, added thermal insulation, etc.
Now Mil-Spec has turned their attention to the Ford F-150 by building a tactically inspired alternative to the Ford Raptor. The Mil-Spec Intrepid Ford F-150 can go off-roading thanks to the $6,000 Baja Performance Suspension Package that features Fox Racing Shox parts.
The components include adjustable 3-inch front coil overs and bypass/remote-reservoir rear shocks. Eibach provides the springs. The suspension provides up to 11-inches of wheel travel, which is a little less than the Ford Raptor.
Also, the Mil-Spec Ford F-150 has an increased width over the stock F-150, making it 7-inches wider than the Ford Raptor and as tall as the Ford F-250. The suspension is almost as aggressive as the one found in the Found Raptor too. Also, the Mil-Spec comes with 20-inch alloy wheels and 37×18.50R20 Nitto Ridge Grappler tires.
Mil-Spec Intrepid Ford F-150 power
The Mil-Spec Ford F-150 has a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that pumps out 675 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. This is quite the power increase from the Ford Raptor, which has 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. However, the Ram 1500 TRX still takes the cake with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
Also, the Mil-Spec added a Ford Performance throttle body along with intake and engine calibration to boost the power. A Borla cat-back exhaust adds some rumbling noise and the Mil-Spec custom tips come out by the steel bumpers to avoid dangling in a vulnerable position.
The Mil-Spec Intrepid has an aggressive look to match its power with Addicted Desert Designs steel bumpers fitted along with a custom grille. You’ll notice Raptor inspired LEDs too, along with a massive aluminum Mil-Spec badge.
Mil-Spec graphics are placed on the tailgate and rear fenders. But this Ford F-150 variant is only available in a shade of white, black, and two shades of gray.
Mil-Spec Ford F-150 performance
According to AutoBlog, the Mil-Spec Ford F-150 feels big, and it is. It’s a larger off-roading truck for those who need more space than the Ford Raptor.
This truck feels like you’re driving a large vehicle with dually tires, and due to the height, you’ll have to be careful about pulling into parking garages.
The Ford F-150 Mil-Spec is surprisingly agile and easy to handle around town, though. The steering feels nice and accurate, and the cabin is reasonably quiet. But the brakes could use some upgrading as it takes a bit of pressure to get this truck to stop. Also, the truck doesn’t feel particularly fast.
Also, the Mil-Spec Ford F-150 will cost about $77,245 or more once added to the Ford F-150 lineup. This is a lot more than the $55,150 price of the 2020 Ford Raptor. It’s more than the $71,690 Ram 1500 TRX too.
