The Ford factory warranty

Ford may have a reputed rapport with the public, but the Ford factory warranty definitely pales in comparison to others like Kia and Hyundai, whose factory warranties cover up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. A new car from Ford isn’t protected very long.

The basic bumper to bumper warranty coverage for Ford is 3 years or 36,000 miles. Compare that to Kia or Hyundai‘s 5 years or 60,000 miles and it’s easy to see that Ford isn’t tempting buyers by offering an industry leading factory warranty.

Ford’s warranty coverage is even further limited as your vehicle gains mileage. From 0 to 12,000 miles, Ford provides coverage for a generous 100% of factory installed parts issues. But once mileage surpasses 12,000 miles the coverage drops to 60% until mileage reaches 24,000. At which point the Ford factory warranty covers at 30% for the duration of the 36,000 mile basic warranty.

Both Ford’s powertrain warranty as well as its safety restraint warranty coverage protects new Ford owners for 5 years or 60,000 miles. The Corrosion is limited to perforation, which basically means the body of a vehicle has to rust through in order to qualify for Ford’s factory corrosion coverage. Corrosion coverage only lasts 1 year or 12,000 miles, compared to Honda who offered corrosion coverage for 5 years with unlimited mileage.

Diesel engine warranty

One cool thing Ford offers with its factory warranty is specific to diesel engines only. If you buy a Ford with a power stroke diesel engine, the coverage lasts five years or 100,000 miles.

This includes the vehicle’s direct injection diesel engine and a few engine components like the high pressure lines, valve covers, cylinder block, timing gear, water pump, gaskets and seals, and some others. Since Ford offers a number of top selling diesel vehicles like the Ford Super Duty or the F-150 Lariat, this addition to the warranty package actually bears some weight.

What does Ford have to say for itself?

Ford Motor Company stands by its factory warranty, and doesn’t appear to have any plans in the works to alter the coverage. Though Ford’s sales rarely falter, the Ford factory warranty is actually pretty bad.

If the Ford Factory Warranty makes you a little nervous, options are available. Ford offers four varying upgrade options for its factory warranty: Premium, Extra, Base, and Powertrain.

The Premium coverage lasts 7 Years or 125,000 Miles, but it can cost up to $4,630 extra depending on the deductible. The other options for a little padding on the Ford factory warranty cost less respectively, but they cover a lot less that the Premium package as well. Ford may be a respected auto maker who produces top selling models including some of the most Iconic cars ever to hit production, but their warranty isn’t bragging.
