The Hyundai Palisade is a larger SUV with three rows of seats that is a significant competitor to options such as the Kia Sorrento and Nissan Pathfinder. So let’s take a look at the Palisade’s power and features to see how it compares. 

How Capable Is The Hyundai Palisade?

You can get started in a brand new 2020 Hyundai Palisade for $31k, making it a reasonably priced option for families. You don’t have to spend upwards of $50k for a Chevy Tahoe or something to access up to eight seats. 

The Kia Sorento is a little cheaper and starts around $26, but the Nissan Pathfinder also starts around $31k. 

The Palisade doesn’t have the best fuel economy, as to be expected with a larger vehicle. It gets an average of up to 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. However, the Sorrento gets up to 29 mpg on the highway, and the Pathfinder gets up to 27 mpg.

The Hyundai Palisade comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The Kia Sorento pumps out up to 290 horsepower, and the Nissan Pathfinder produces 282 horsepower. 

With this amount of power, the Hyundai Palisade can tow up to 5,000 lb, which is pretty good. It may not be able to tow a horse trailer, but smaller items are fine. The Sorento can also tow 5,000 lb while the Pathfinder can tow up to 6,000 lb. 

What is impressive, though, is the Palisade’s pick up. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.1 seconds. This is point four seconds faster than the Sorento, but the Pathfinder takes a shocking 8.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. 

Also, while we would like to see these SUVs equipped with true 4×4 capabilities, the Hyundai Palisade is only available in all-wheel drive, which is still pretty good. 

The AWD feature makes this SUV better equipped for handling snow and other slippery conditions. 

Hyundai Palisade Features 

The Hyundai Palisade certainly has a luxurious feel with large, padded leather seats. They have quilted Nappa leather. 

Also, The Palisade is pretty spacious. You can access up to 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. There is also up to 86.4 cubic feet of cargo space total. This is more space than the Sorento and Pathfinder have to offer. 

Plus, the Palisade is equipped with a 10.3” infotainment center that’s able to connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing your family to connect with their favorite music.

Most importantly, the Hyundai Palisade is safe. It has standard safety features such as forward collision prevention and lane departure assistance to protect your family. 

The Hyundai Palisade seems pretty average against the competition, only it is slightly faster and has a nicer interior. However, it may be worth saving a few thousand dollars with the Kia Sorento instead.
